Evaluate Risk Associated with Port/Waterway Closures<br />

Mission Need: A methodology to evaluate the risk of port/waterway closures and the economic impacts they<br />

may cause based on their duration.<br />

<strong>Project</strong> Objectives:<br />

• In collaboration with the Center for Risk and Economic Assessment of<br />

Terrorism Events (CREATE) and Other Government Agencies (OGA),<br />

develop a defensible and repeatable methodology to evaluate the risk of<br />

port/waterway closures that can be applied to any port in the U.S., whether<br />

inland or coastal.<br />

• Assess the local, regional and national economic impacts of port/waterway<br />

closures based on the duration of the shutdown.<br />

• Recommend marine safety safeguards that can mitigate the consequences of<br />

port/waterway closures.<br />
