FIRE SCIENCE<br />

Certificate of Proficiency<br />

The <strong>college</strong> provides a 30-credit certificate program in fire science<br />

that recognizes achievement in a sequence of career courses. This<br />

may be completed through part-time studies in a two-year period,<br />

with courses carrying full <strong>college</strong> credit that can be credited later<br />

toward the associate degree in fire science.<br />

Courses are offered over a two-year cycle, permitting students to<br />

enter the cycle at the beginning of any regular semester.<br />

The AS in Homeland Security provides students with a broad<br />

understanding of safety and security issues, including terrorism, natural<br />

and man-made disasters, and emergency management. The program<br />

focuses on prevention and protection, preparedness and response,<br />

information sharing and analysis, and research and technology.<br />

A.A. Degree Program<br />

The Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree in Liberal Arts is designed for<br />

students planning to transfer to a four-year <strong>college</strong> or university. The<br />

degree program includes 45 credits of General Education courses<br />

plus elective courses for a minimum total of 64 credits. General<br />

Education courses must be selected from the official list of Approved<br />

General Education Courses. When selecting electives, students may<br />

take courses that interest them. The Liberal Arts degree can include<br />

no more than 6 credits of business courses.<br />
