In the years spanning my career I was associated with successful launches
of such well known brands in Ireland as Tefal, Sodastream, Milupa(Aptamil),
Bob Martin and Richard Burbidge DIY Mouldings.
In my last role as sales and marketing director of a major DIY distributor a
very large portion of my responsibilities was focused on driving the business
as a credible player in the DIY sector. In a fifteen year period I drove sales
from €2m. to €20m by mid. 2007. A major contribution to this growth came
as a direct result of strategically planned export sales to both the UK and
Northern Ireland. Each year an average of 20% of incremental sales was
generated from this export strategy.
In that same period over 80% of my customer base were family run
businesses, some second generation, partnerships, sole traders and new
start-ups. This gave me a good insight into the operations of SME’s and the
challenges they meet on a day to day basis.
Since I retired in 2007 I have acted as a business mentor to clients wishing
to devise a route to market or identify and develop new markets and share
with them real life experience of what is involved.
Mentoring assignments to-date range from Health &Beauty, Pet Food/Care,
Confectionery, Household/DIY and Food.
