has the great effect of creating many jobs, high added value and
high growth. Noting that the paradigm of the global economy is
changing from labor & capital to information and knowledge,
and further to culture content-based economy, he said, "We will
maximize economic effects through the creation of a visual culture
town based on the culture technology infrastructure of the
Daedeok Innopolis." Related to this, several visual content, including
a state-of-the-art video hall, a small and medium visual
special effects town, cutting-edge equipment for special effects,
Ripple effects of construction of Sejong City
on Daejeon economy
Asked about the ripple effects of construction of Sejong City on
the Daejeon economy, the mayor said, "As the gateway to Sejong
City, Daejeon will fulfill its core role in the shopping, tourism, entertainment,
culture and education sectors. Meanwhile, city transportation
facilities will be expanded by building roads linking
Oesam-dong and Sejong City, Singugyo and Sejong, and
Daejoen, Sejong, and Osong. "We will support such metropolitan
city services, including central administration, research & development,
financing, commerce, logistics and medical service,
and play a key role for balanced development of national land,"
said Yum. Commenting that Daejeon boasts affluent resources
and strong competitiveness, he said, "We will build cultural,
leisure and tourism infrastructure and seek high growth with
Sejong City." Daejeon city is also actively fostering medical service
tourism as a strategic industry with future-oriented new
growth. "In line with this, we aim to attract 10,000 foreign patients
by 2012 and create Korea's representative medical cluster
by investing some 2.5 trillion won in the Daedeok Innopolis during
the period from 2011 to 2017," he said.
"In particular, we plan to attract top-class domestic and foreign
medical institutions or hospitals by offering land in the Daedeok
special zone at low prices or free of charge," he added.
