KES2010
From South America to South Korea -
Peruvians Search for Security at KES 2010
Fresh off of a trip to Machu Picchu, a pre-Columbian Incan
site on a mountain ridge above the Urubamba Valley in Peru,
Igor Saravia Aguilar is visiting KES 2010. Sarivia Aguilar is
the General Manager of and he has traveled to Korea and the
KES with his colleague Commercial Manager Jorge Cossio
Medina, looking for ways to improve security in Peru. Korea
IT Times was honored to speak with them during a brief intermission
in their quest to find the best that Korea has to offer in
high tech solutions for reducing crime in cities across the
Peruvian landscape.
S.A.V. Ingenieros S.A.C. started out as a software company
over 18 years ago. Soon thereafter, they came to realize that
the breadth of security related solutions, many of which were
being offered by providers from around the world, could have
a positive influence on society and they started to offer them as
a part of their consulting business. Today, the company is recognized
in Peru as a leader in the field, with customers in both
the public and private sectors. Unfortunately for the Peruvian
public, business is booming for the bad guys. Saravia Agular
and Cossio Medina painted a picture of rampant crime in
Peru. They compared the situation there with the troubles of
neighboring Columbia. When we asked if the basis for the rising
crime rate was drugs, as it is in Columbia, they replied by
saying that drugs are always a part of the problem where crime
in their region is concerned, but thievery, violence and extortion
top the list in Peru. They said that the laws are very weak
and that the criminals who are apprehended generally pay a
fine and are back on the street to re-offend in a very short time.
Within the past few weeks general elections were held in Peru
and many of the local seats of power have changed hands.
The new leaders are committed to stemming the tide of crime
in their townships and municipalities, by whatever means necessary.
When it comes to technical solutions, their first call
was to S.A.V. Ingenieros S.A.C. Saravia Agular said that the
Peruvian government has allocated $500 million USD to be
spent on technical solutions between now and the end of this
year and they have charged his company with the responsibility
of defining the best use of these funds. The men from Peru
are in the market for the best-in-breed biometric security systems,
including facial recognition and fingerprint systems and
they believe that their solution provider may be found at the
KES. They are still early in the discovery phase of the review
of the products and services being shown at the exhibition, but
they already have their eye on a couple of vendors, whose
products and services show promise. They intend to investigate
further on Day 2 of the show.
Speaking of the show, both Saravia Agular and Cossio
Medina said their initial impressions and experiences, in
Korea and at the KES, have been positive. They said that they
found the Korean people in general to be very polite, helpful
and friendly and that they have felt welcome since they arrived
in Korea. As to the KES event itself, they said that it was very
impressive, both in the scale and in the quality of the presentation.
They continued by saying that they have been very comfortable
in the venue, were greatly entertained with the opening
ceremonies and felt that the only challenge was a difficulty
communicating with some of the vendors. All in all, they felt
what the show had to offer outweighed the long journey from
Peru to Korea. If you are a provider of enterprise-grade security
solutions, then you should keep your eye out for the men
from Peru, S.A.V. Ingenieros S.A.C. is at KES 2010 to deal.
