The proven, reliable<br />
<strong>CHAMP</strong> Connector, with its<br />
many years of experience,<br />
is now available as a<br />
Category 5 connector to<br />
meet the high-speed date<br />
requirements of today’s LAN<br />
applications.<br />
Category 5 is a performance<br />
specification for cable and<br />
connectors defined for a<br />
frequency bandwidth to 100<br />
MHz. A Category 5 cabling<br />
system will accommodate<br />
high data rates such as<br />
100 Mbps for 100BASE-T<br />
Ethernet of 155 Mbps ATM.<br />
With <strong>CHAMP</strong> <strong>System</strong> 5<br />
Connectors, only the plug<br />
(male) connector is compensated<br />
to achieve<br />
Category 5 performance.<br />
When mated with any standard<br />
<strong>CHAMP</strong> receptacle,<br />
PC board or cable mount,<br />
Category 5 performance is<br />
achieved. Mating receptacles<br />
do not require any<br />
compensation.<br />
The plug has been<br />
designed using flex-film circuitry,<br />
as well as a change<br />
in the wiring pattern, to<br />
reduce Near-End Crosstalk<br />
(NEXT). NEXT is the undesirable<br />
coupling of signals<br />
between pairs in cables<br />
and connectors.<br />
In addition to Category 5<br />
performance,<br />
<strong>CHAMP</strong> <strong>System</strong> 5<br />
Connectors provide a<br />
concentrated I/O port which<br />
can support up to twelve<br />
2-pair ports in a single<br />
connection. This concentrated<br />
I/O saves on both<br />
panel space and PC board<br />
real estate to support the<br />
constant effort in the miniaturization<br />
of electronics.<br />
<strong>CHAMP</strong> <strong>System</strong> 5<br />
Connectors are also supported<br />
by a complete LAN<br />
cabling system that extends<br />
from the hub out to the<br />
individual workstations.<br />
