Abuse in the First Degree<br />

• November 4-6, 2010 – Portland<br />

— Reported on November 8, 2010 by Fox 12 Oregon<br />

— Three girls victimized by human traffickers were rescued by FBI agents during a three-day<br />

sting operation in the Portland area<br />

— The sting, which lasted from Thursday to Sunday, was part <strong>of</strong> a local and national crackdown<br />

on human trafficking called Operation Cross Country 5, marking the fifth national law<br />

enforcement action against child sex trafficking<br />

— The girls recovered during the operation were interviewed and assessed for counseling,<br />

medical assistance and possible housing needs<br />

— The FBI said the operation has recovered 69 children nationally<br />

— The Portland City Council will vote on a resolution Wednesday morning to dedicate $285,000<br />

to create a shelter for child trafficking victims, as well as to fund<br />

• October 25, 2010 – Tacoma*<br />

— A former army sergeant based at Joint Base Lewis-McChord was sentenced Monday in U.S.<br />

District Court in Tacoma to 11 years in prison for sex trafficking <strong>of</strong> a child and attempted sex<br />

trafficking <strong>of</strong> a child<br />

— Sterling Hospedales, 26, pleaded guilty to the charges in July<br />

— The investigation began in April 2009 when Lakewood police were alerted to a juvenile<br />

runaway from the Seattle area who was posting ads on Craigslist indicating she was a<br />

prostitute.<br />

• June 21, 2010 – Portland*<br />

— Reported June 22, 2010, by Lynne Terry <strong>of</strong> The Oregonian in Portland, Ore.<br />

— Donnico T. Johnson, 39-year-old Seattle resident, was sentenced to nearly 15 years in prison<br />

after pleading guilty in March to <strong>Sex</strong> <strong>Trafficking</strong> <strong>of</strong> a Minor.<br />

— Forced a 15-year-old to post ads on Craigslist and drove her to “meetings” in the fall <strong>of</strong><br />

2008.<br />

• August 16, 2010 – Portland<br />

— Reported August 16, 2010 by The Oregonian.<br />

— Jefferson Bryant Davis, 22, faces federal sex-trafficking charges for allegedly transporting a<br />

13-year old girl to three other states where he forced her into prostitution and beat her when<br />

she resisted.<br />

— Davis transported the girl from Portland to Washington, California and Nevada with the intent<br />

that she engage in prostitution.<br />

Pennsylvania<br />

• December 2, 2010- Chambersburg<br />

— Reported on December 2, 2010, by Jim Tuttle <strong>of</strong> Public Opinion<br />

— Gregory Ramos, 52, now <strong>of</strong> Wilmington, Del., entered the plea <strong>of</strong> not guilty in Franklin County<br />

Court on Wednesday during his arraignment on charges <strong>of</strong> sexual exploitation <strong>of</strong> children,<br />

corruption <strong>of</strong> minors and promoting prostitution.<br />

— Candy Hubbard, his co-defendant, was arrested in August 2008 and found guilty <strong>of</strong> sexual<br />

exploitation <strong>of</strong> children, promoting prostitution, owning a house <strong>of</strong> prostitution, and corruption<br />

<strong>of</strong> minors.<br />

— The defense received discovery documents Wednesday and is now familiarizing itself with<br />

the case. Ramos is scheduled for trial in March. In the meantime, he is free on $50,000<br />

unsecured bail.<br />
