Domestic Sex Trafficking of Minors - Women's Funding Network

— Previously reported on March 30, 2011, by The Seattle Times: Anthony "Mack" Terry was
convicted on two counts of promoting the commercial sex abuse of a minor, second-degree
promoting prostitution and witness tampering. Terry was found guilty of pimping out a 17-
year-old girl and an adult woman using backpage.com and then manipulating the teenager
through a series of phone calls he made from the King County Jail.

— U.S. Senators Federal prosecutors have charged a second man accused of pimping children
outside a Tacoma doughnut shop.
— Sabir Shabazz worked with Shabina Devona Rice to pimp at least two teen girls as part of a
prostitution ring.
— Rice kept the girls locked away in her Tacoma apartment while running the prostitution ring
outside a doughnut shop in the city. Shabazz posted advertisements for the girls – 13-yearold
runaways who’d turned to Rice for shelter – to find “johns” online.

— Christopher Lewis and Lashad Alexander, both 24, entered pleas to single counts of human
trafficking last week, the U.S. Attorney's Office in Seattle reported today.
— Lakewood police arrested Alexander in March 2010 after a 17-year-old girl called her brother
to say she was being held against her will in a motel.
— Lewis also is accused of pimping a juvenile girl. He faces nine years in federal prison when
sentenced in May.
— Alexander faces a sentence of seven to 12 years.

— King County Superior Court jury convicted Baruti Hopson of pimping out a teenage girl, but
the 32-year-old Seattle man wasn't in court to hear the verdict: He testified Tuesday then
failed to show up for closing arguments Wednesday.
— Hopson was found guilty of two counts of promoting the commercial sex abuse of a minor,
three counts of third-degree child rape and one count of second-degree assault, all involving
the same girl, now 16.
— In September, the officer discovered a photo of the girl on backpage.com and contacted the
Seattle Police Department's Vice & High Risk Victims Unit for help.

— King County prosecutors plan to use a trial next week in Seattle to demonstrate how pimps
and johns sexually exploit children.
— The Seattle Times reports the law is evidence of a shift in the way police and prosecutors
view the sex trade
— The three men expected to stand trial are two 22-year-olds accused of forcing a 16-year-old
Seattle girl into prostitution. Also a 55-year-old man accused of paying $400 to have sex with
the teen.

accused of paying them for sex with her
— Sharmaarke A. Abdilahi, 22, and Yusef Abdi Yusuf, 23 -- coerced a 16-year-old runaway girl
into working as a prostitute for them
— Corey G. Wight, a 55-year-old state employee living in Bellevue was among the men who
paid for sex with her
