convicted on two counts <strong>of</strong> promoting the commercial sex abuse <strong>of</strong> a minor, second-degree<br />
promoting prostitution and witness tampering. Terry was found guilty <strong>of</strong> pimping out a 17-<br />
year-old girl and an adult woman using backpage.com and then manipulating the teenager<br />
through a series <strong>of</strong> phone calls he made from the King County Jail.<br />
• April 14, 2011- Tacoma<br />

— U.S. Senators Federal prosecutors have charged a second man accused <strong>of</strong> pimping children<br />
outside a Tacoma doughnut shop.<br />
— Sabir Shabazz worked with Shabina Devona Rice to pimp at least two teen girls as part <strong>of</strong> a<br />
prostitution ring.<br />
— Rice kept the girls locked away in her Tacoma apartment while running the prostitution ring<br />
outside a doughnut shop in the city. Shabazz posted advertisements for the girls – 13-yearold<br />
runaways who’d turned to Rice for shelter – to find “johns” online.<br />
• February 14, 2011- Tacoma<br />
— Reported on February 14, 2011, by Adam Lynn <strong>of</strong> The News Tribune<br />
— Christopher Lewis and Lashad Alexander, both 24, entered pleas to single counts <strong>of</strong> human<br />
trafficking last week, the U.S. Attorney's Office in Seattle reported today.<br />
— Lakewood police arrested Alexander in March 2010 after a 17-year-old girl called her brother<br />
to say she was being held against her will in a motel.<br />
— Lewis also is accused <strong>of</strong> pimping a juvenile girl. He faces nine years in federal prison when<br />
sentenced in May.<br />
— Alexander faces a sentence <strong>of</strong> seven to 12 years.<br />
• January 27, 2011- Seattle*<br />

— King County Superior Court jury convicted Baruti Hopson <strong>of</strong> pimping out a teenage girl, but<br />
the 32-year-old Seattle man wasn't in court to hear the verdict: He testified Tuesday then<br />
failed to show up for closing arguments Wednesday.<br />
— Hopson was found guilty <strong>of</strong> two counts <strong>of</strong> promoting the commercial sex abuse <strong>of</strong> a minor,<br />
three counts <strong>of</strong> third-degree child rape and one count <strong>of</strong> second-degree assault, all involving<br />
the same girl, now 16.<br />
— In September, the <strong>of</strong>ficer discovered a photo <strong>of</strong> the girl on backpage.com and contacted the<br />
Seattle Police Department's Vice & High Risk Victims Unit for help.<br />

— King County prosecutors plan to use a trial next week in Seattle to demonstrate how pimps<br />
and johns sexually exploit children.<br />
— The Seattle Times reports the law is evidence <strong>of</strong> a shift in the way police and prosecutors<br />
view the sex trade<br />
— The three men expected to stand trial are two 22-year-olds accused <strong>of</strong> forcing a 16-year-old<br />
Seattle girl into prostitution. Also a 55-year-old man accused <strong>of</strong> paying $400 to have sex with<br />
the teen.<br />

into working as a prostitute for them<br />
— Corey G. Wight, a 55-year-old state employee living in Bellevue was among the men who<br />
paid for sex with her<br />
