— Police arrested Kanawha County assistant public defender Steve Conifer Wednesday for<br />

allegedly trying to prostitute children as young as 5 years old over the Internet.<br />

— Conifer was charged under a section <strong>of</strong> state law titled "receiving support from prostitution;<br />

pimping; penalty; prostitute may testify." A first <strong>of</strong>fense that involves a minor is punishable by<br />

a prison sentence <strong>of</strong> not less than two years and a fine <strong>of</strong> up to $5,000.<br />

— Conifer was arraigned before county Magistrate Traci Carper-Strickland and was released<br />

after posting 10 percent <strong>of</strong> his $50,000 bond.<br />

— Prosecutors say 18-year-old Nicole Riehle and 28-year-old Barbi Metzger were involved in<br />

prostituting young girls and have been ordered to stand trial.<br />

— Metzger was accused <strong>of</strong> putting pictures <strong>of</strong> the teenagers wearing only their underwear on<br />

Backpage.com and advertised the girls for sexual favors<br />

— Dominick D. West, 19, <strong>of</strong> Wausau also was charged in connection with the prostitution ring.<br />

West is scheduled to enter a plea to prostitution charges Wednesday. Darrell D. Vaughn is<br />

scheduled to enter a plea July 7.<br />

— Previously reported on May 25, 2011, by Wausau Daily Herald: Darrell D. Vaughn, 19, is<br />

charged with three counts each <strong>of</strong> soliciting a child for prostitution and child enticement for<br />

prostitution. He faces up to 25 years in prison on each count, if convicted. Vaughn told<br />

investigators that he was paid to drive three teenage girls to Wausau motels to have sex with<br />

men for money in the rooms paid for by Nicole K. Riehle, 18. William Payne, 22, <strong>of</strong> Wausau,<br />

organized the prostitution ring. 27-year-old Barbi Metzger, and 19-year-old Dominick West<br />

are also facing charges.<br />

— Previously reported on May 18, 2011, by WAOW.com: A fourth person has now been<br />

charged in a Wausau child prostitution ring. Prosecutors have charged Dominick D. West, 19,<br />

with nine counts relating to his role in child prostitution and an arraignment has been<br />

scheduled for June 15.<br />

— Previously reported on March 28, 2011 by WAOW News 9: Five adults have been<br />

arrested in connection with a child prostitution ring in Wausau. Barbi Metzger, Nicole Riehle<br />

and Darrell Vaughn have been charged. Police are also looking into the three teenage girls<br />

involved (17 years old), saying they could face prostitution charges too.<br />

— Previously reported on March 16, 2011 by Wausau Daily Herald: Darrell D. Vaughn, 19,<br />

<strong>of</strong> Sch<strong>of</strong>ield, and Wausau residents Nicole K. Riehle, 18, and Barbi L. Metzger, 27, were<br />

charged with three counts each <strong>of</strong> enticing a child for prostitution and soliciting a child for<br />

prostitution. Each count carries a maximum 25-year prison sentence. Metzger put pictures <strong>of</strong><br />

17-year-old wearing only her underwear on the social networking website Backpage.com<br />
