ARMOUR OF GOD

His disciples before His ascension. It is not a commission to bring
the world a sweet and soft humanism - 'Let us be gentle to each
other, dear' - not a poor, bloodless gospel which is no more than a
synthetic religion, liberal ethics, sentimentality, but the living power
of the redeeming blood of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. The blood of
Jesus is the wonderful medicine which God has given for a lost
world. The gospel of Jesus Christ is the great, glorious answer for
everyone and everything.
With the armour of God goes the readiness to bring the Word
of the mercy of God to poor, lost sinners. To be witnesses. A witness
is somebody who' saw it himself, who 'was with it'. Anybody can be
a witness: the businessman, the housewife, the girl, the schoolboy,
the intellectual, the simple-minded, the aged, the youngster, all
people. If we offer our readiness to the Lord of the harvest, He will
use it It is not so very important whether He will send us to the
classical heathen regions in Central Mrica or to the asphalt jungle of
your city, to the people living on the same floor as you, to your social
circle, your office, factory or workshop - the most important thing is
that He sends you. It is His business where to send, it is our business
to be ready to be sent
When you go out as a witness, bring neither more nor less than
the gospel of peace. Do not bring your own invented human
doctrines, however religious they may sound, no traditions, explanations,
deeply theoretic contemplations, bring only the gospel of
peace. Do not discuss, do not philosophize, do not bring 'your'
church or denomination, do not bring a matter dear to you or a
special subject But do bring the simple and precious gospel of John
3: 16, the gospel of mercy for sinners, forgiveness, redemption and
eternal life.
Jesus said: 'Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you:
not as the world giveth, give I unto you' (John 14: 27). The peace
conferences, the pacts of non-aggression and the security councils of
the world bring no peace for your soul. Jesus says: 'My peace!' A
peace within, peacefulness from Me in the storm, this 'joy unspeakable
and full of glory' (1 Peter 1 : 8), this 'blessed assurance, Jesus is
mine!'; a peace which passes all understanding. By trusting acceptance
of the forgiveness of sin, redemption of sin, this peace floods our
hearts.
'How then shall they call on Him in Whom they have not
helieved? and how shall they believe in Him of Whom they have not
