We took the tough 454 HO partial engine —w<strong>it</strong>h <strong>it</strong>s super-tough, all-forged<br />
reciprocating assembly—and matched <strong>it</strong> w<strong>it</strong>h a set of higher-flow, ovalport<br />
aluminum cylinder heads to create the ZZ454/440. We picked up<br />
an add<strong>it</strong>ional 15 horsepower while maintaining an incredible 500 lb-ft of<br />
torque. The lightweight aluminum heads also help save weight on the<br />
nose of a Camaro, Nova or other street/strip machine.<br />
The ZZ454/440 uses our new cylinder block casting that offers greater<br />
strength and performance (see page 230 for details), while the aluminum<br />
heads use smaller, 110cc <strong>com</strong>bustion chambers to boost <strong>com</strong>pression to<br />
9.6:1 (up from 8.5:1 on the 454 HO). We then match the airflow capabil<strong>it</strong>y<br />
w<strong>it</strong>h a high-lift, hydraulic roller camshaft that delivers great idle qual<strong>it</strong>y and<br />
requires no periodic lash adjustments.<br />
Our crate engine package delivers the ZZ454/440 assembled w<strong>it</strong>h a water<br />
pump, balancer, aluminum intake manifold and a 14-inch flexplate. Your<br />
GM Performance Parts dealer can hook you up w<strong>it</strong>h the carburetor, starter,<br />
ign<strong>it</strong>ion system and other accessories required to get this big-power Big-<br />
Block started.<br />

tapped. When using cast-iron exhaust manifolds,<br />
lower head bolts may need to be replaced w<strong>it</strong>h<br />
