LS Torque-to-Yield Fasteners<br />
Unlike trad<strong>it</strong>ional Small-Block and Big-Block engines, the state-ofthe-art<br />
LS family uses primarily stretch-f<strong>it</strong> fasteners, <strong>com</strong>monly<br />
called torque-to-yield. These are bolts and fasteners that require<br />
a multi-stage tightening sequence to achieve the factory torque<br />
specification, w<strong>it</strong>h the final sequence involving turning the<br />
fastener a number of degrees from the last torque stage. This<br />
requires not only a conventional torque wrench, but a torque<br />
angle wrench or an electronic, dual-readout torque wrench.<br />
LS Series Starter<br />
G<br />
Using torque-to-yield fasteners provides more accurate sealing<br />
and more even pressure on the various engine <strong>com</strong>ponents.<br />
However, because of their stretch-f<strong>it</strong> design, many LS fasteners<br />
are designed for one-time use; that means they must be<br />
replaced when are removed.<br />
