Thought: This course inquires into the<br />
emergence <strong>and</strong> development <strong>of</strong> anthropological<br />
thought, theories, methods <strong>and</strong> generalizations<br />
in the context <strong>of</strong> western social <strong>and</strong> cultural<br />
milieu. <strong>The</strong> particular emphasis is on the<br />
changing shape <strong>of</strong> the academic discipline <strong>of</strong><br />
anthropology, from the late nineteenth century<br />

explores anthropologists’ use <strong>of</strong> historical methods,<br />

the rapprochement between the disciplines, the<br />
fields’ most influential interlocutors, significant<br />
debates, <strong>and</strong> some <strong>of</strong> the scholarly work emerging<br />

A minor in geography consists <strong>of</strong> 18 hours <strong>of</strong><br />

GE109, Cultural Geography: Regions <strong>of</strong> the<br />
World: A survey <strong>of</strong> 11 cultural regions <strong>of</strong> the<br />
world. Course includes study <strong>of</strong> the ecological<br />
base, history, economy, politics <strong>and</strong> ethnic<br />
relations. Emphasis is on conflict between<br />
Western <strong>and</strong> non-Western societies since<br />

States: <strong>The</strong> creation <strong>and</strong> persistence <strong>of</strong> regional<br />
variations <strong>of</strong> culture in the United States from<br />

City: A methodological introduction to<br />
American urban studies from the perspective <strong>of</strong><br />
geography <strong>and</strong> anthropology; geographical <strong>and</strong><br />
cultural change <strong>of</strong> the structure <strong>of</strong> the American<br />
city in the nineteenth <strong>and</strong> twentieth centuries<br />
with emphasis upon Indianapolis <strong>and</strong> the<br />
