French history. Emphasis is on main events,<br />

people <strong>and</strong> ideas that have shaped the country.<br />

FR345, France <strong>and</strong> the Francophone World:<br />

1900 to Present: A survey <strong>of</strong> France <strong>and</strong> the<br />

Francophone world in the 20th <strong>and</strong> 21st centuries<br />

cultural material. Prerequisite: FR334, 342,<br />

in business, government, media or other<br />

institutions in a French-speaking country as<br />

<strong>of</strong> the classical age in France <strong>and</strong> study <strong>of</strong><br />

significant works <strong>of</strong> the period. Lectures, reading<br />

recordings. Prerequisite: Three years <strong>of</strong> college<br />

FR435, 18th-Century France: Overall view <strong>of</strong><br />

the French Enlightenment <strong>and</strong> study <strong>of</strong> the significant<br />

literary works <strong>of</strong> the period. Lectures,<br />

<strong>and</strong> films. Emphasis on class discussion,<br />

Europe, North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa or<br />

Asia. Uses literary texts, social documents <strong>and</strong><br />

movies, depending on topic. Emphasis on class<br />

discussion, writing <strong>and</strong> rewriting. Course may<br />

be repeated with each different topic. Prerequisite:<br />

in the cultures <strong>of</strong> French-speaking countries.<br />

<strong>The</strong>mes may deal with literary, social, political<br />

<strong>of</strong> one nation or <strong>of</strong> a region. Course may be<br />

opportunity for qualified students to pursue a<br />
