Foodstuffs (commodity No. 3 in the commodity classification)
make up only 1% in total transportation volume of ZSSK CARGO.
Characteristic goods of this commodity are corn products, mill
products, malt, plant and animal oils and fats, sugar beet, molasses,
and starch oddments. The transportation of these commodities,
carried out by ZSSK CARGO, is provided by the following wagon series:
Gags, Hadgs, Es, Eas, Tdgns, Uadgns.
The highest share in transportation of foodstuffs is represented by
services provided to the domestic food processor of oil products -
Palm Group, joint stock company, malting plants (especially export of
malt) and producers of bio fuels (the basic raw material for bioethanol
production is corn, the basic material for biodiesel production is the
oil of colza).
During the beet campaign, we as the almost exclusive rail carrier in
central Europe, provide transportation of beet sugar for Slovak sugar
factory Sereď, using the ACTS transportation system – by containers.
Decreasing volumes of foodstuffs transportations were influenced by
systémom prepravy ACTS – špeciálnymi kontajnermi, ktoré možno z cestných
ťahačov prekladať priamo na nákladné železničné vozne.
ACTS transportation system – by special containers, which can be reloaded
from road tractors directly onto the rail freight wagons.
a very poor harvest throughout most of Europe in 2007, which was the
reason for reduced transportation requirements in the following year.
Another reason was the high price of corn products and oilseeds due
to the global food crisis in the first half of 2008,
This year’s harvest, considered as good by farmers, possibly the
second or third highest ever. Therefore, there is a prospect of
increased volumes of mainly corn products transportations, in
domestic transportation and in export, where we are trying to break
through by means of competitive prices, not only against the road
haulage, but also against private rail carriers, since, in a high degree,
export is carried out by block trains.
Commodity No. 4 – Building materials
Transportation of goods included in commodity building materials
from the standpoint of transported volumes has an important position
in ZSSK CARGO transportations. We carry more than 4 million tons
of goods in this commodity per year. Its share on total volume of
ZSSK CARGO transportations is 9%. This commodity includes a wide
range of goods, from bulk substrates such as gypstone, dolomite,
magnesite, cement, sand, gravel, stone, kaolin, slag, lime, up to
finished building products such as tiles, pavers, roofing, structural
components and prefabricated elements.
For transportation of building materials, ZSSK CARGO offers the
following wagon series: Eas, Eaos, Eanos, Faccs, Fals, Falls, Has, Tds.
Our main customers are cement, lime producers, metallurgical
enterprises, producers of products made of cement, concrete, stone
and fire resistant materials. We participate in transportation of
oversized loads (special consignments) for construction companies,
various construction components necessary for construction and
reconstruction of bridges, highways, rail tracks.
Transportation of bulk substrates is carried out mostly by block
trains, which are, due to large volumes, long-term contracts and their
effectiveness, very attractive for competitors - private rail carriers.
Development of building materials transportations is negatively
influenced by consequences of global financial and economic
crisis, which showed its full potential at the end of last year and has
affected mainly metallurgical and construction industries. Reduction
in metallurgical production had an impact particularly on domestic
transportations of limestone, slag and dolomite and also on export of
dolomite to the Czech smelting plants.
