SOPHOMORE CAREER DAY On March 20, 2013, Addison tenth grade students attended Career Development Council’s 27 th annual Sophomore Career Day at Alfred State College, along with 342 students from Bath, Bradford, Campbell-Savona, and Hammondsport and explored 24 careers with presenters from local businesses and college professionals. Students pre-selected four career sessions. Alfred State Interim President, Valerie Nixon, welcomed students and provided insight into what a college education can offer. Keynote speaker Elaine Morsman of Alfred State shared tips from current college students who were asked what they wish they knew in high school. She encouraged students to be open to new career directions. It is a rare person who stays in the same career for a lifetime. Our sophomores and others from the four school districts had a taste of campus life, including lunch in the dining hall. Many students now understand the value of a winter coat after walking between buildings on this blustery, snowy day. Students were encouraged to ask questions. When asked about salary, Web Development speaker, Joel Dudley, pointed out that salary size should not be the primary determining factor in a job search. Family, friends, and other values need to be considered in these decisions. Corning Incorporated was the corporate sponsor for this event. Other contributing partners were Alfred State College, the Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes, Inc., Steuben County Youth Bureau, and the five participating school districts. It was about activities in the snow. There was signing and dancing. One scene was just like The Weather Channel with Mother Nature as the forecaster. The performance was directed by Mrs. Hamblin and Mrs. Perkins. My favorite song was "Snow Angel." This song was sung by all the girls and Jena Rice had a solo. It was a great performance.

There is a myriad of reasons why people don’t go to church and some reason’s that people should not have for attending church. Today’s question is: Why should I go to church? Answer: Because the Lord commands us to. In Hebrews 10:24-25 it says “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” Christianity is not a solo-sport. We are commanded to provoke one another to love and good works, and meet together so that we are able to encourage and lift each other up. The Day of Christ’s return is drawing near and the world is getting increasingly wicked and Satan is getting increasingly desperate to get you to fall into sin and spiritual despair. Therefore, if you are a Christian (a follower of Jesus Christ) you are commanded to join together to be strengthened in your faith. The fellowship of the church is illustrated in many ways in scripture. In 1 Corinthians 12 the church is a “body” using each individual God-given gift for the glory of the Lord; in 1 Corinthians 3 a “building”, each member doing his or her part in God’s family. The idea is that we are to be knit together as a family, serving God while we serve others all for the Glory of God, helping each other in time of need, praying for each other daily, encouraging each other with uplifting words and yes even to lovingly correct if needed. Galatians 6:2 tells us to LEGAL NOTICE ADDISON CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT NOTICE OF ANNUAL MEETING NOTICE OF BUDGET HEARING VOTING ON BOARD SEAT NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Budget Hearing for the inhabitants of Addison Central School District, qualified to vote at school meetings in said district, will be held in the cafeteria of the high school on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at 5:30 p.m. for the transaction of such business as is authorized by the Education Law. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Annual Meeting for voting on the 2013-2014 school budget, and the election of one member to the Board of Education, to fill the expired term of Brian Herrington, will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 between the hours of 12:00 noon and 8:00 p.m. in the high school gymnasium. NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that a second proposition is on the ballot to authorize the establishment of a new Capital Reserve Fund in order to defray the cost of any reconstruction of School District buildings and, in order to accomplish the same, said Board is hereby authorized to establish the maximum amount of such Reserve Fund to be $4,000,000 for a term of ten years, and to appropriate budget appropriations and/or other legally available funds of said District to such Reserve Fund. The following vacancies are to be filled on the Board of Education: 1. A five (5) year term to fill the expired term of Brian Herrington Petitions must be directed to the Clerk of the District, must be signed by at least twenty-five qualified voters of the district, and must state the name and residence of the candidate. NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that applications for absentee ballots are available to be picked up at the District Office, 7 Cleveland Drive, Suite 101, Addison, NY 14801, Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. If requested, the application can be mailed to the person, or parents may pick them up for their children who are away at college. If there are questions, please call the District Office at 359-2244. The application must be received by the clerk at least seven business days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter (May 10, 2013), or the day before the election (May 20, 2013) if the ballot is to be picked up personally. Sealed ballot envelopes will be received up to 4:00 p.m. on Election Day at the District Office. The Village Board has received several complaints about parking on Main Street, or the lack thereof. In the last six years we have been very successful and have added several new businesses to the Main Street district. Because of this, parking, at times, is limited on Main Street. Therefore the Village Board has asked that all merchants, employees, and residents of Main Street to please NOT park on the street on Main Street. Everyone should also be aware of and adhere to the two hour parking limit on Main Street and the NO OVERNIGHT PARK- ING on Main Street as this hinders the DPW from street maintenance such as snow plowing and street sweeping. The Village Board has asked the Addison Police to pay close attention to these issues. Parking tickets and possible towing could result. Often times, if there is NO place close to park, many customers will drive right by and their business will be lost. NO ONE WANTS THIS TO HAPPEN. This summer the Village will be very busy with many projects going on. We received a letter from NYS Department of Transportation stating that they will be repaving Route 417 through the Village from Baldwin Avenue to the Route 15 four lane highways. In addition, our New York Main Street Grant Project is moving forward. Several building facades will be rehabbed and beautified this summer along with the addition of several new second floor apartments to Main Street. We are also planning on replacing the Main Street street lights with new lights, along with underground wiring, plus the addition of new trash receptacles and sidewalk benches. Don’t forget, “MUSIC IN THE PARK” will soon be here.
