A L U M N A O F T H E Y E A R Luncheon 2008 Susan Heintz Blanchard ’76 was named the Alumna of the Year at the St. Scholastica Academy Alumnae Luncheon held at Calypso Patio Grill and Restaurant. Blanchard graduated from SSA in 1976 and attended Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, La., completing her studies in Physical Therapy and also a B.S. from LSU Medical Center, New Orleans, in 1981. She married Mark Blanchard and they have two sons. Her professional life started at Highland Park Hospital, and then moved to home health pursuing advanced studies in neurological rehabilitation. In 1985 she moved to Lakewood Healthcare Center directing the Rehabilitation department in the first Skilled Nursing Facility in the state of Louisiana. In Susan has been a regular participant in the SSA Alumnae Career Day. She has also participated in the Falaya Fling and made herself available to the SSA Advancement office for various needs. Susan enjoys spending her time with her family attending LSU football games, traveling, fishing and skiing. Alumnae Association Vice President, Jeanne Livaudais Daigle ’57 welcomed everyone. Alumnae board member Missie Arata Noel ’84 led the guests with an opening prayer. The state of the school report was given by President Marguerite Celestin. Daigle informed the guests of the progress the Alumnae Association has made in contacting more alumnae and increasing activities. Lisa Hernandez Pellegrini ’87 introduced the 1958 and 1983, 50-year and 25-year SSA Class of 1983 celebrating their 25th year since graduation. Marguerite Celestin accepts a gold chalice and paten, for the new SSA Our Mother of Perpetual Help Chapel from Dianne Murray Vasquez ’58, who represents the Class of 1958. 1987 she joined Physical Rehab Partners, a privately owned outpatient physical therapy practice. Susan progressed from Director of Clinical Education to Director of Operations for the multi-location practice. In 1997, Blanchard opened her own physical therapy practice, Rehab Dynamics, Inc. She has served on the Board of Directors of Southern Physical Rehabilitation Network, as Vice President, President, and Board Member for the last six years. A long time member of the American Physical Therapy Association, Private Practice, Neurology, Geriatric, Clinical Educators, and Orthopedic Sections. 18 D O V E W I N G S honorees. On behalf of the class of 1958, Dianne Murray Vasquez ’58 presented President Celestin and SSA with a gold chalice and paten for Our Mother of Perpetual Help Chapel. The Alumna of the Year was presented by 2007 recipient and board member Lisa Mott Dugger ’73, and the closing prayer was given by Amie Boudreaux Post ’97, board member. Student council president and a member of the senior class of 2008, Molly Cox, shared her memories of attending SSA, the sisterhood we all are familiar with and how she will miss it in her next venture. Senior class president Andrea D’Aquin was called upon to share the rewards and benefits SSA gave
her. She shared the opportunities each person is given at SSA, the hopes and dreams of her future and how SSA and her relationships at school groomed her for future endeavors. Board members Dugger ’73, Caroll Amond Robert ’83, and Elise Lafrance Schell ’79 chaired the luncheon. Other Alumnae Association board members are Kathy Schoultz Balsamico ‘76, Polly Eustis Burrall ‘00, Joanna Brandt Case ’90, Alumnae President Jennifer Ballard Gitz ’85, Secretary Eileen Buchholz Huval ’77, Patricia Clerc Jackson ’61, Susan Boudreaux Loesberg ’68, and Emily Meyer ‘00. Guests graduating in 1958 and celebrating their 50th anniversary including Vasquez were: Camille Gennaro Bruce, Ellen Rose Ostendorf Cook, Mary Simoneaux Francis, Florence Landry Herman, Patricia Hebert Huval, Patsy Healy Kyte, Sybil Hector Pfeffer, Anna Reber, Jerrye Brady St. Martin, Sarah Lewis Taber, and Marilyn Turner. Graduating in 1983 and celebrating their 25th anniversary were Peggy Gement Benit, Lynette Farrell Blossman, Danielle Dufour Daigle, Kim Dufour DeBrock, Rebecca Simpson Dougherty, Mary Kyte Duet, Julia Meraux Pearce, Shelly Smith Scoggins, Anne Arata Spell, and Teresa Watt. The alumnae from 1938 to 1957 in attendance were Anita Sierra Nuss ’38, Winnie Heintz Jordan ’46, Lucie Frederick Heintz ’51, Dottie Privette Frederick ’53, Mary Anne Gilmore ’53, Paulette Heldner Holahan ’53, Sr. Jeanne d’Arc Kernion O.S.B. ’53, Janice Mire Sharp ’53, Ellen Barnett Comeaux ’56, Irma Brown Dearie ’56, Rosalie Peters Phillips ’56, June Fortier Seeger ’56, Mary Margaret Stein ’56, Lucie Ann Hebert Comenge ’57, D’wana Marcotte Naquin ’57, Patricia Morris Robichaux ’57, and Barbara Payne Starr ’57. Guests graduating in 1959 came to visit with their sisters from 1958 and get ideas for their 50th in 2009 were Kathleen Naquin Barre, Diane Charlaron Carter, Zula Heintz Clairain, Ann Fonti Eustis, Dolores Lincoln Jenkins, Connie Pellegrin Neil, Meredith Lyon Ramke, Joann Poncet Tarantino, Frances Canale Werther, and Allison Litoloff Wicker. Continuing in years 1960 – 1981 alumnae attending were: Anne Elizardi Bocskov ’60, Lynn Franz Ott ’60, Eeyth Pellegrin Falgout ’61, Sr. Benita Peters, O.S.B. ’61, Mary Frederick Blust ’68, Margaret Nuss Maier ’68, Cynthia Heintz ’75, and Carol Lanier Drapcho ’81. Alumnae from 1987 - 2005 were: Shannon Fresh Aparicio ’87, Nicole Jemison Siverd ’95 and Alexandra Schell ‘05. Principal Mary Kathryn Villere, English teacher Patrice Cedor, and Advancement Director Elaine Simmons also attended the luncheon. Alumna of the Year 2008, Susan Heintz Blanchard ’76, was congratulated by 2005 Alumna of the Year Lisa Hernandez Pellegrini ’87, and Shannon Fresh Aparicio ’87.
