The Benedictine tradition of Prayer,Work, <strong>St</strong>udy and Community is embedded in our girls from the first time they<br />

step foot on the SSA campus until they leave us as young women at graduation. In that regard, we would like to<br />

present the major accomplishments for the 2008-<strong>09</strong> and 2007-08 school years as reflected through this tradition.<br />

Highlights of a Year of Celebration 2008-<strong>09</strong>:<br />

PRAYER<br />

• 30 Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion<br />

• 60 <strong>St</strong>udent Ministers<br />

• 6 Outstanding Catholic <strong>St</strong>udents from their parishes (one Teacher for her parish work)<br />

• Dedication of Our Mother of Perpetual Help Chapel<br />

WORK<br />

• SSA athletes were recognized for district, parish, state honors<br />

• One state championship in soccer, two runners-up – bowling and cross country; SSA played in at least regional play in all but one sport in one of the<br />

toughest districts in the state<br />

• 2nd place for the Spanish play in the Foreign Language Festival; 1st place in the French play (two years in a row)<br />

• Several students who made the district and state honor choirs<br />

• For student Council, we hold the District II Presidency; we took first place in the Scrapbook contest; we received the Gold Honor Council Award<br />

• Three students in this area were given the Republican Professional Women of <strong>St</strong>.Tammany Award. All three were from SSA<br />

• SSA Royalettes - National Champions<br />

STUDY<br />

• Two National Merit Finalists<br />

• $7.4 million in scholarships, to 69 universities in 19 states<br />

• Tulane Focus Award recognizing a junior for leadership and service<br />

• LSU Golden Achievement Award (two years in a row; one of 20 out of 300 schools receiving this award); 15 SSA students received 148 credit hours.<br />

• 777 students on Alpha Honor Roll; 289 students on Beta Honor Roll<br />

• 141 students in AP<br />

• 5 students went on to state science fair. One student got the Society of Women Engineers Award and the Outstanding Research Award from the Navy<br />

• One student from district rally placed 2nd in Spanish I; one placed 2nd in Biology II; 10 students placed to go on to state rally<br />

• Foreign Language Awards in Latin, Spanish, and French from Loyola University<br />

COMMUNITY<br />

• 25,692 Service Hours.<br />

• We had many collections for the Food Bank.<br />

• Aida was the play for this year.<br />

• Two concerts were held during the year.<br />

Highlights of a Year of Celebration 2007-08:<br />

PRAYER<br />

• Groundbreaking for the new SSA Chapel, Our Mother of Perpetual Help<br />

• 30 SSA students and 12 SPS students participated in the Pep Rally for God<br />

• 8 students went to Notre Dame Vision during the summer<br />

• 20 Hearts of Purity members went to the <strong>Fall</strong> Regional Governor’s Conference on Abstinence<br />

• 12 total school Masses<br />

• 20 prayer services<br />

• Morning Prayer continues to be student-led<br />

• Marian Ministry organized rosaries and May Crowning<br />

• 5 retreats<br />

• Seniors attended the OLL Mass with the Archbishop<br />

WORK<br />

• <strong>St</strong>udent Council officers attended the Louisiana Association of <strong>St</strong>udent Councils<br />

• <strong>St</strong>udent Council member elected the <strong>St</strong>ate Parliamentarian for the LASC; attended the National Association of <strong>St</strong>udent Councils Convention in<br />

Overland, Kansas<br />

• 2 students attended Girls <strong>St</strong>ate at LSU<br />

• 3 students attended the National Young Leaders Conference (NYLC) in Washington, D.C.<br />

• <strong>St</strong>udent won office of District II President and four students were Gold <strong>St</strong>ar Recipients at the LASC Convention; they also won three awards for the<br />

school.<br />

• 8 students attended Louisiana Youth Seminar (LYS)<br />

• A team of video production students produced a short film about teen driving that was chosen one of eight for production nationally<br />
