L A S C Yabba-Dabba-Do<br />
Thirteen SSA students went Yabba-Dabba-Do for<br />
Leadership 07-08 when they attended the Louisiana<br />
Association of <strong>St</strong>udent Councils (LASC) summer workshop<br />
held at Northwestern <strong>St</strong>ate University in Natchitoches.<br />
Delegates focused on developing their leadership skills along<br />
with gathering spirited ideas from fellow delegates. Pictured<br />
are Gabrielle Campo, Mackenzie Schott, Grace Nader,<br />
Caroline Dussom, Peggy Faucheux, Kristen McDaniel,<br />
Gabrielle Braud, <strong>St</strong>udent Council Moderator Liz Tocco, and<br />
Catherine Schroeder, Emily Estopinal, Michelle Lawrence,<br />
Sarah Kuebel, Sarah Landry, Christina Grishman, Annie Redd,<br />
and Maggie <strong>St</strong>ewart.<br />
In January 2008 at the LASC Convention, SSA won the<br />
office of District II President and the student representative<br />
elected for that position was Mackenzie Schott. Gabrielle<br />
Campo, was a BESE Board Finalist.<br />
Members of the professional production crew included Music<br />
Director Sharon Scharmer, Choreographer Mary Dee Brinkman,<br />
Sound Director David Heintz, and Technical Director <strong>St</strong>ewart<br />
Shields. Alum parent Cindy Sutton served as Head Costumer,<br />
and SSA parent Jan Pine served as Set Designer and Chief Artist.<br />
SSA <strong>St</strong>udent Directors were Jessica Esquivel, Elizabeth Scott,<br />
Lindsay Gagnon, Taylor <strong>St</strong>ewart; Alli Val1ette and Tori Ruiz each<br />
served as First Assistant Director.<br />
Covington High School Talented Music Director Mel Rogers<br />
served as orchestra conductor. The orchestra boasted Scharmer,<br />
keyboard; Jivka Jeleva and Natasha Depoy, violin; Karen Jung, cello;<br />
Becky Hicks, bass; Kevin Estoque, percussion; Estelle Campagne,<br />
flute; Dorothy Butler, oboe; Paul Frechou and Larry Jones,<br />
clarinet; Matthew Haskins, clarinet and bass clarinet; Ryan Rome,<br />
bassoon; Blake Daniels and Dr. Bryan Depoy, trumpet; Bill<br />
<strong>St</strong>rickland, French horn; and Dr. Tim Schneider, trombone.<br />
Adair Watkins was brilliantly cast as the King of Siam, who wittily<br />
proclaimed to Anna that “When I sit, you sit. When I kneel, you<br />
kneel. Et cetera, Et cetera, Et cetera.”<br />
Watkins was paired with Laura Ballard and Olivia Simoneaux,<br />
who seamlessly shared the role of Anna. Also sharing roles were<br />
Michael Rees and Kurt Thompson as Prince Louie, Ashley<br />
Giambelluca and Meagan Robert as Lady Thiang, Jennifer<br />
Palpallatoc and Megan Bickham as Lady Tuptim, and Carter<br />
Friend, A.J. LaCroix, and Thomas Williamson as Prince<br />
Chuluongkorn. These talented actors brought their characters to<br />
life on the Benet Hall stage.<br />
Other notable actors were David Kraus, Patrick Francis, Juan<br />
Carlos Hernandez, Justin Lapeyrouse, Oliver Sibley, and Charles<br />
Early.<br />
Royal wives and subjects of the king were portrayed by Marley<br />
<strong>St</strong>ubbs, Rachel Rees, Leah Clanton, Maggie Murphy, Brittany<br />
Doussan, Lauren Richard, Maile Binion, Marybelle Bates, Cassi<br />
Breaux, Alexis Bruning, Payton Spell, Victoria D’Antonio, Sarah<br />
Rodriguez, Shelby Thompson, Faith Baggett, Jaynee Williams,<br />
Lindsey Campbell, Colette Pellissier, Kortney Cleveland, Kirsten<br />
Lapuyade, Candice Marie, Allison Eckert, Lindsey Gagnon,<br />
Theresa Carollo, Savannah Miller, and Emily Breaux.<br />
SSA students portraying royal ballet dancers were Kelly Bruce<br />
and Amber Ardoin as Eliza, Erin Weller as Little Eva, Ashley<br />
Giambelluca as The Sun, Payton Spell as Uncle Thomas, Kortney<br />
Cleveland as Topsy, Kaitlin Gremillion as Buddha, Emily Lambert<br />
as Simon of Legree, Savannah Jenkins as the Angel George, Erin<br />
Caruso, Lesley Achary, Allison Eckert, Theresa Schiro, and Alexis<br />
Bruning.<br />
SSA students playing royal children of the king were Erica<br />
Sjunnesen, Hannah Baker, Ashleigh Sparks, Gabrielle Pitre, Ashley<br />
Cabeceiras, and Hadley Modeen.<br />
Children actors from around the parish who were part of the<br />
