S P S C H E E R L E A D E R S SPS Cheerleaders, comprised of SSA students, attended the Southwestern Cheerleading Association 2008 summer camp at Sandestin Resort in Destin, Florida. For the second consecutive year they were awarded first place in the Home Pom competition. The team was awarded third place in the Home Cheer competition. Casey Scheib competed in the Camp Jump Off finals and senior Jessica Esquivel was named an All American. The St. Paul’s Golden Blues attended the American All-Star dance camp in June 2008. The team consisting of SSA students received superior ratings throughout the camp winning first runner-up in the dance competition and first runner-up as camp champions. Golden Blues, who received All Star status were: Laura Ballard, Emily Beau, Lisa Brady, Jennifer Drivon, Melissa Fairbank, Amy Fairbank, Ashley Giambelluca, Lane Hebert, Danielle Krumm, Danielle LeBlanc, Caroline Mitchell, Andi Neal, Katie Pecot, Casey Ragan, Katie Tyrney, and Madeline Varnado. Other members of the team include Caroline Acquistapace, Taylor Billeaud, Marcelle Carmouche, Erin Caruso, Claire Gaudet, Katelyn Gremillion, Elizabeth Hughs, Elizabeth Lambert, Emily Lambert, Sarah Nielsen, Michelle Preau, Lauren Royerre, and Hillary Talley. S S A C H E E R L E A D E R S The Universal Cheerleading Association sent teachers to host the SSA Cheerleaders two-day summer camp in the gym. The team learned and practiced stunts, cheers and pom routines and entertained their parents to a show-off performance. The 2008–2009 Royalettes attended Universal Dance Association (UDA) Elite Camp at Southeastern Louisiana University in June. They received first place for their home routine jazz dance. The team earned the “Rock Star Award” from Lafayette High School, superior trophy for their team routine, and a superior trophy for the routines learned at camp. The UDA full out award, which qualifies them for National Competition in Orlando, Florida, was given to the Royalettes - only four teams in the camp received this award. Royalette director Laurell Szczepanski, was voted, Most Valuable Coach, by all the team directors at the camp. The team performed a solo of their original choreography to qualify them to perform in the Capital One Bowl pregame show and the Thanksgiving Day Parade in Walt Disney World.
