The SSA Alumnae Association sponsored the annual Career<br />
Day and invited 17 professional women to discuss their<br />
careers with the juniors and seniors. Career Day is one of the<br />
most anticipated events for the students because the alumnae<br />
return and offer their guidance, advice and real world<br />
experience. Joanna Brandt Case ’90, an alumnae board<br />
member, helped organize the event. The keynote speaker was<br />
Elizabeth I. McBurney, M.D. McBurney’s daughter is Leanne<br />
McBurney Truehart M.D. ’86.<br />
Dr. McBurney graduated from the University of Southwestern<br />
University in Lafayette and Louisiana <strong>St</strong>ate University School<br />
of Medicine in New Orleans. She is Board certified in<br />
Dermatology and Internal Medicine, and is iin private practice<br />
in Slidell. McBurney also teaches one day each week to the<br />
dermatology residents at the medical schools. She is Director<br />
of the LSU Cutaneous Lymphoma Clinic in New Orleans.<br />
Her faculty appointments are Clinical Professor of<br />
Dermatology, LSU Health and Science Center and Clinical<br />
Professor of Dermatology, Tulane University Health and<br />
Science Center. She has held offices as president, American<br />
Dermatological Association and immediate past president,<br />
Women’s Dermatologic Association and was past president,<br />
American Society of Dermatologic Surgery. McBurney also<br />
served on the Board of Directors of the American <strong>Academy</strong><br />
of Dermatology. She has published over 40 articles in referral<br />
journals and authored and co-authored 15 book chapters.<br />
Her special interests are Cutaneous T-cell lymphoma and<br />
cutaneous laser surgery.<br />
The alumnae speakers were Laura Brandt Alberts ’81, bank<br />
vice president and loan officer; Lauren Fajoni Bartlett ’91,<br />
defense attorney; Rebecca Bradford ’97, residential real estate;<br />
Polly Eustis Burrall ‘00, registered nurse; Gretchen Grisoli<br />
Dauterive ‘01, commercial real estate; Kristin Dugger Kingrea<br />
’99, interior designer; Lisa Hernandez Pellegrini D.D.S. ’87,<br />
dentist; Cali O’Brien Petit ’94, child life specialist; Rebecca<br />
Delahoussaye Soine ‘00, physician resident/intern; Elizabeth<br />
Joanen <strong>St</strong>okes ’86, media director – advertising; Shelley<br />
Engelhardt Tolson ’73, meeting and event planner; Leanne<br />
McBurney Truehart, M.D. ’86, psychiatrist; and Jessica Brown<br />
Ulmer, D.D.S. ’94, orthodontist. Also speaking to the students<br />
was Susan Gottfried, SSA alum parent, who is a NASA<br />
computer programmer.<br />
