The SSA Alumnae Association sponsored the annual Career
Day and invited 17 professional women to discuss their
careers with the juniors and seniors. Career Day is one of the
most anticipated events for the students because the alumnae
return and offer their guidance, advice and real world
experience. Joanna Brandt Case ’90, an alumnae board
member, helped organize the event. The keynote speaker was
Elizabeth I. McBurney, M.D. McBurney’s daughter is Leanne
McBurney Truehart M.D. ’86.
Dr. McBurney graduated from the University of Southwestern
University in Lafayette and Louisiana State University School
of Medicine in New Orleans. She is Board certified in
Dermatology and Internal Medicine, and is iin private practice
in Slidell. McBurney also teaches one day each week to the
dermatology residents at the medical schools. She is Director
of the LSU Cutaneous Lymphoma Clinic in New Orleans.
Her faculty appointments are Clinical Professor of
Dermatology, LSU Health and Science Center and Clinical
Professor of Dermatology, Tulane University Health and
Science Center. She has held offices as president, American
Dermatological Association and immediate past president,
Women’s Dermatologic Association and was past president,
American Society of Dermatologic Surgery. McBurney also
served on the Board of Directors of the American Academy
of Dermatology. She has published over 40 articles in referral
journals and authored and co-authored 15 book chapters.
Her special interests are Cutaneous T-cell lymphoma and
cutaneous laser surgery.

vice president and loan officer; Lauren Fajoni Bartlett ’91,
defense attorney; Rebecca Bradford ’97, residential real estate;
Polly Eustis Burrall ‘00, registered nurse; Gretchen Grisoli
Dauterive ‘01, commercial real estate; Kristin Dugger Kingrea
’99, interior designer; Lisa Hernandez Pellegrini D.D.S. ’87,
dentist; Cali O’Brien Petit ’94, child life specialist; Rebecca
Delahoussaye Soine ‘00, physician resident/intern; Elizabeth
Joanen Stokes ’86, media director – advertising; Shelley
Engelhardt Tolson ’73, meeting and event planner; Leanne
McBurney Truehart, M.D. ’86, psychiatrist; and Jessica Brown
Ulmer, D.D.S. ’94, orthodontist. Also speaking to the students
was Susan Gottfried, SSA alum parent, who is a NASA
computer programmer.
