Mr. Chris Guillebeau, Author of bestseller “The $100 Start Up”
discusses Micro Entrepreneurship
Entrepreneur, traveler and author of bestseller “The
$100 Start Up”, Mr. Chris Guillebeau, enriched
participants at SPJIMR with insights into the world
of non-conformity. A non conformist himself,
Mr. Guillebeau has never worked in a formal
environment, preferring instead to launch a series of
small ventures ranging from importing cotton to
”dabbling in search engines”. He is an avid traveller
having visited more than 180 countries and has set
himself an ambitious goal of seeing the entire world
before the age of 35. Mr. Guillebeau is an eminent
blogger with a blog called
“ T h e A r t o f N o n -
Conformity”.
He addressed a full house
on his latest book and
about how “you don't have
to live your life the way
other people expect you
to”. Introducing “The $100
Start Up”, Mr. Guillebeau Mr. Chris Guillebeau
said that self employment
has been around forever
and still thrives in small villages and remote areas
where organised employment is absent. The
advantage that entrepreneurs have today is free access
to a global marketplace where skills can be packaged
and sold at a premium. He quoted the example of
Chandu from Hyderabad who leveraged his passion
for spreadsheets to become an online guru for excel
consulting and marketing through Facebook and
Twitter.
Mr. Guillebeau wrapped the session with a wonderful
thought: “You need to define your own success. If you
don't decide for yourself what you want to get out of life,
someone else will probably end up deciding for
you.”He drove the point home during the book signing
session by stamping each book – “Freedom!”
