SPJIMR Students participate as guests in NDTV's 'We the People'
SPJIMR students were invited to the live studio recording
of the special edition of episodes of NDTV's 'We the
People' programme that NDTV anchor Ms. Barkha Dutt
is conducting in all major cities of India. Cultural
Committee 2012 acted as the point of contact between
NDTV and PGDM students.
Fifteen students from SPJIMR were in the audience.
They witnessed an exciting group discussion which had
eminent personalities from various professional fields.
The programme was shot at Trident Hotel, BKC,
Mumbai. The topic of the discussion was – Sexual
Violence: The Enemy within (Marital Rape and Incest)
Panelists included Ms. Priya Dutt, Lok Sabha MP,
Congress; Ms. Kalpana Lajmi, filmmaker; Mr.
Himanshu Roy, Joint Commissioner of Police, Mumbai;
Mr. Anand Grover, Senior Advocate;
Ms. Flavia Agnes, Women's Rights
Activist; Ms. Mrunalini Deshmukh,
Senior Advocate; Ms. Poonam
Muttreja, Ex. Director, Population

The discussion, keeping in view the

recent horrendous
incidents in New
Delhi, uncovered
hidden aspects of
the Indian Penal
C o d e a n d i t s
blindness to marital
rape, and the need
for systemic changes to warrant better security for
women. It unearthed the age-old beliefs of a
misogynistic society and gender inequality. The
discussion addressed multiple queries regarding sex
education, the penal code, general ignorance of the
public and other such statistics regarding domestic
sexual violence. The issues covered ranged from
marital rape to child sex abuse to the atrocities that
women and minors undergo under the
pretense of the safety of their homes. Ms.Dutt
concluded the discussion saying, “Parents
need to tell their daughters, and women in
general need to understand, that it is not okay
anymore – no means no. And it isn't your fault.
It isn't about how you raise your daughters; it
is as much about how you raise your sons.”

Company Talks: For students, By students
Company Talks is a unique initiative launched by the
Industry Integration Committee at SPJIMR on
December 1, 2012 to tap the industry knowledge and
experience of the students within the batch to help the
larger group. In its first session, the companies under
discussion were Goldman Sachs and Mckinsey &
Company. The session was conducted by students with
previous work experience in the above mentioned
companies. They discussed in detail about the working
culture in the companies, what these companies look
for in potential new recruits and the career path when
one joins the companies. It was an engrossing and
fruitful session with a lot of participation from the
audience.

Mahindra War Room 2012 - SPJIMR
Campus Round
The campus round of the 5th edition of The Mahindra
War Room, one of India's biggest case study
competitions, was held at SPJIMR on November 8,
2012. Conceived in 2008 by the Mahindra Group in
collaboration with Broadvision, the competition works
to build the Mahindra Group brand and attracts the
best talent from 17 chosen campuses across the
country.
Six teams, five of whom were from the first year, were
shortlisted to present their solutions to the jury from
Mahindra & Mahindra. The presentations were on
various Mahindra Group sectors pre-selected by the
students.
All the presentations were appreciated and jury
members also found them to be superior to those of
several other premium B-schools. The team that came
second was Team 'Lakshya', a team of first year PGDM
students who presented on the Retail sector. However
the undisputed winners of the day were Team 'Bistro',
the first year team who presented on the financial
services sector.
The day ended on a lighter note with an award to the
funniest team name - 'Aapne Bulaaya, Hum Four-eign
Chale Aaye' and the best presenter award to -'Dattu
SRK'.
