Mentors Meet to review the programme PGCDM Batch-1
A mentor is a coach, guide, tutor, facilitator, counselor
and trusted advisor, someone willing to spend his or
her time and expertise to guide the development of his
mentee. Keeping this in mind, a mentors' meet of the
PGCDM batch is organised every semester. The meet
was attended by all the participants along with their
mentors from Alert India, Essel Mining & Industries Ltd,
Baif and Ultratech Cement Ltd (Aditya Birla Group).
This being the third and last mentors' meet for PGCDM
batch-1, it was very important as feedback from
mentors and the participants was procured on the
programme.
Chairperson – CEdSS, Prof. Rukaiya Joshi, welcomed
the gathering, mentors and guest speakers Mr. Uday
Kagal, Founder - Innovation Social Consultants,
Dr.K.S.Gopal, Scholar-in-Residence, TISS and Mr.
K.Siddharatha, Chief Mentor at Ensemble and the
mentors who came from all over the country to
participate in the learning process at SPJIMR. She gave
an overview of the programme to the mentors.
Mr. Uday Kagal addressed the group on “Social
Enterpreneurship”. The discussion was on NGOs
and corporates, entrepreneurship and social
entrepreneurship. He had an interactive discussion
with the group on developing innovative social models
that are more accountable, scalable and sustainable.
“The world has grown so dark that even a small light
looks bright,” Dr. K. S. Gopal said. He spoke on “New
Trends & Challenges in India”, touching on the
growing gap between the poor and rich and
globalisation as a reality. He shared a few of his life
experiences in India and abroad and the need to see
the joy of development and feel accomplished as the
ultimate motivator.
Mr. K. Shiddharatha shared his views on
“Secularisation as a process of Social change,
Development & Innovation”. He spoke of bringing
about an attitudinal change and development by the
process of secularisation by being responsible for self,
the community and the nation.
The mentors and the participants gave their feedback
November 24, 2012
and suggestions about the programme in the open
interactive forum which was addressed by Prof. Joshi.
The meet ended with the mentors and the participants
interacting with the faculty and guest speakers over
tea.
Experiences of PGCDM participants
The mentee is more enthusiastic, energetic and
definitely a positive change. The course has been
helpful in making him more mature

Although the mentees are working on different
projects, they are applying management tools taught
here and this has helped to increase effectiveness and

The faculty at SPJIMR go out of the way to make you
comfortable and are very helpful towards the
participants which we have not seen anywhere else -
