At A-REIT, the Manager embraces
responsibility for the impact of
our activities on the environment,
consumers, employees,
communities, stakeholders
and all other members of the
public sphere. Together with the
Ascendas Group, we strive to
strike a balance between hardware
and “heart-ware” of the business.
We continue to show our
appreciation and do our part
through the support for the arts; to
continuously improve and sustain
the environment, and promote
initiatives that uphold health and
safety standards as a commitment
to manage all aspects of our
business in an ethical, responsible
and sustainable way,
Ascendas Green Month
We recognise the impact our
business has on the environment.
In June 2009, building on the
success of the inaugural Ascendas
Green Month in 2008, the focus
for 2009 was to attain greater
participation from the tenants in a
wider range of activities.
The campaign kicked off with a
new green forum focusing on the
business case for going green.
The forum, opened to business
decision makers and tenants,
covered topics such as overcoming
challenges, creating opportunities
for business growth and reaping
the benefits from green initiatives.
More initiatives aimed at
enhancing and promoting
environmental awareness amongst
the over 1,000 tenant companies
in the A-REIT and Ascendas
community were organised. This
includes car pooling whereby
tenants are encouraged to car
pool among themselves through
a web platform initiated by
Ascendas. “Take the stairs day”
promotes saving of energy and
a healthy lifestyle where lifts at
selected Ascendas’ buildings were
shut down once every month, with
the exception of one operational
lift for emergency use. A recycling
programme was developed to
encourage tenants to either
donate or exchange their unused
items which are in good working
condition.
Ascendas conducted a beach
clean-up with 80 staff members
setting off to East Coast beach
for a day of litter-picking. Over
100 staff also joined in to planta-tree
at Kent Ridge Park as part
of Ascendas’ Green Movement to
inculcate a sense of responsibility
for the environment we live in.
Humanitarianism at
Ascendas
Doing our part for the less
fortunate, Ascendas held a series
of outings with various voluntary
groups, reaching out to children
who are intellectually challenged
as well as families from the lower
income group.
Collaborating with the Lion
Befrienders, staff from Ascendas
took turns to distribute food to the
lower income families and old folks
residing in Ang Mo Kio and Sin
Ming Industrial Estate. Ascendas
also collaborated with other
entities such as the Sembawang
Family Service Centre, Spastic
Children Association of Singapore,
Singapore Cheshire as well as
Canossian School to arrange tours
for the beneficiaries to visit places
of interests in Singapore.
Healthy Lifestyle Week @
Singapore Science Park
With a continuous focus to
promote a healthy lifestyle
amongst people working within
the Singapore Science Park, a
series of competitive games and
lectures on healthy diet were
organized in the name of health,
fitness and fun in September
2009. With an array of 26 activities
during the week, tenants had
