Late-Bottled-Vintage
NIEPOORT L.B.V. 2007 Bottle
Fortified Wine
Port
£14.95
Late Bottled Vintage port is from a single year. The wine ages 4-6 years in old oak casks
(opposed to Vintage that ages 2-3). LBV fills the gap between the rubies and the vintage ports
since a Ruby Port should be drunk quite young and a great Vintage Port may need 15 to 20
years to really open up and show its splendour. Winemaker Dirk Niepoort calls this the "Little
Brother" of his Vintage Port, as the origins of the grapes and vinification methods are
identical. Deep red colour with a very vivacious, lively aroma of fresh dark plums, cherries and
a hint of chocolate along with a silky aroma giving the wine great finesse. Fabulous extract on
the palate with a tight grainy texture intertwined with fresh dark fruits and a mellow spirity
finish. The wine can be enjoyed now, and will become more complex with further cellaring
until 2020. To fully benefit from its qualities we recommend it be decanted before serving.
Serve with soft cheeses, mild blue cheese, dark chocolate desserts or a pepper steak!
POCAS L.B.V. 2005/06 Bottle
£13.95
Manuel Domingues Pocas Junior founded this highly respected Portuguese Port house in 1918.
The company was intitially a producer of brandy used in the production of Port wine, however
it progressed to produce its own Ports. It wasn't until 1960 that the first vintage was
produced with the family's trademark. The house still remains in the hands of the founding
family, managed today by Manuel Joaquim Pocas Pintao, and specializing in Colheitas - vintage
tawny Ports. This is a soft endearing wine with an upfront fruitiness offering ripe, berry cassis
over an impressive structure.
QUINTA DE LA ROSA L.B.V. 2004/06* Bottle
£18.95
LBV port is bottled two to four years after Vintage Port to provide a top flight port which
may be drunk earlier. Quinta de la Rosa's 1998 LBV, bottled in autumn 2002, is deep coloured
and well structured with hints of berry fruits. It is a 'traditional' LBV which has been bottled
straight from the tonel without filtering or fining. It may throw a sediment and if so can be
decanted.
QUINTA DO INFANTADO Late Bottled Vintage L.B.V.
£13.95
2004/07** Bottle
Quinta do Infantado has been a leader in estate-bottled Ports since 1979. The Roseira family is
very careful when declaring a vintage year and will not do so if there is the least doubt about
the concentration and quality of the vintage. The quality of a Port house's LBV is often the
best indicator to the quality of the wines overall and a true expression of the terrior. It was
estate bottled in 2008 into 191 magnums, 31,200 bottles and 1950 halves. This wine spent four
years in cask prior to being bottled to soften the tannins and add complexity. It was then
bottled unfiltered to retain the deep and ripe flavours and therefore needs decanting before
drinking. However, the effort is truly worth it!
Perfect with classic Roquefort and Stilton cheeses.
drink as wines and elegant in style. Ruby and Tawny dee both begin as the same port and
then they are split in half. Ruby Dum is youthful with a headstrong character, dominated by
red cherries and plums with great freshness from ageing in large wooden vats in our cool
cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia.
Tawny
NIEPOORT Tawny '30 Year Old' Bottle
£109.95
Tawnies with an age indication such as "30 years" are blended from different wines averaging
30 years. The prolonged ageing in small wooden casks confers the characteristic Tawny
and a persistent
bouquet and refinement. After dinner, 30 years old tawny is a good match with cheeses and
chocolate based desserts.
For the true lovers it can match perfectly with a good cigar or by itself as the company for the
night. Serve at room temperature or lightly chilled, and drink it slowly, because it has a lot to
discover. Tasting Notes: Deep brown colour with a brown rim and a touch of green - very
characteristic in old tawny ports. On the nose a wine from another era, but very much alive
