Lalande-de-Pomerol
CHATEAU LA FLEUR DE BOUARD Lalande-de- Pomerol 2008 £21.95
Bottle
The Boüard de Laforest family - who also own the famous Château Angelus Saint-Emilion, a
Premier Grand Cru Classé B - bought La Fleur de Boüard in 1998. The estate has 20 hectares of
vines in Lalande de Pomerol, close to the Pomerol plateau.
ROBERT PARKER 90-93 points 'The 2008 La Fleur de Bouard was cropped at 25 hectoliters per
hectare, and the final blend is 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.
The wine came in at 13% natural alcohol. Its dense purple color is accompanied by a big, sweet
nose of white chocolate, creme de cassis, licorice, tar, and toast. A lively, crisp acid profile is
due to the lack of serious heat in 2008. Textured and long, it is capable of lasting a decade or
more. This is a sleeper of the vintage. The reference point for Lalande de Pomerol is Hubert de
Bouard’s property.'
CHATEAU LES CRUZELLES Lalande-de-Pomerol 2008 Bottle
£19.95
ROBERT PARKER 90-92 points '"Probably the finest wine yet produced by proprietor Denis
Durantou, this sleeper of the vintage exhibits beautifully ripe black raspberry and black cherry
fruit interwoven with notes of truffles, licorice, and flowers. Surprisingly dense, with medium
to full body, silky tannins, and lovely freshness, this is a concentrated, fleshy, mouthfilling
Lalande de Pomerol to drink during its first 10-15 years of life.'
CHATEAU SIAURAC Lalande-de-Pomerol 2006 Bottle
Assembled from 79% Merlot and 21% Cabernet Franc, this wine has been aged for 12 to 14
months in French oak barrels. Hedonistic, fruity, well balanced, and sensual, it has supple
tannins and a sweet black cherry finish. Pair with grilled red or white meat, game, hard
cheeses.
Food pairing note: Game, Hard Cheese, Beef
Margaux
CHATEAU DU TERTRE 5ieme Cru Classe Margaux 2003 Bottle
£13.95
£32.85
ROBERT PARKER: 90-92 - Another beautifully made Margaux. Fleshy, layered, medium-bodied,
seductive, this is undeniably a sleeper of the vintage.
JAMES SUCKLING (The Wine Spectator): 89-91 - Loads of fruit with jammy, blackberry
character. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and a long finish. Nicely done.
CHATEAU DURFORT-VIVENS 2ieme Cru Classe Margaux 2005 £39.95
Bottle
DECANTER MAGAZINE **** - 'Black-red, really fine natural concentration, slightly smoky,
tobacco-leaf nose, even a touch of iron, flavours already complex, masses of energy and grip
alongside the deeply fragrant fruit. Drink 2010-25. (18 points)' Steven Spurrier
JANCIS ROBINSON 16/20 - 'Very dark maroon. Sweet, almost porty notes on the nose. Very
sweet on the front palate, without quite enough acidity. Some strong Merlot influence. Good
attempt but not very complex. Fades very fast on the finish. Lack of intensity on the mid
palate. Not very appetising. Hot finish. Quite brutal. Unappetising - a bit sickly. Drink 2015-22'
CHATEAU MALESCOT ST. EXUPERY 2ieme Cru Classe
£36.95
Margaux 2004 Bottle
THE WINE ADVOCATE Robert Parker (2007) 90 points
Although one of the appellation’s more tannic 2004s, the tannin is beautifully balanced by
sweet black currant fruit, spring flower, camphor, and licorice notes. This impeccably
well-made, medium-bodied Margaux reveals a lovely integration of acidity, tannin, and wood.
Give it 2-3 years of bottle age, and drink it over the following two decades. This estate
appears to be performing at a high quality level over recent vintages.
CHATEAU MARGAUX 1iere Grand Cru Classe Margaux 1998 £430.00
Bottle
ROBERT PARKER 91 POINTS - The 1998 Margaux's color is a dense ruby/purple. The wine is
tannic and austere, but elegant, with notes of asphalt, blackberries, acacia flowers, and
sweet, toasty oak. Subtle, rich, nicely-textured, and medium-bodied, it is built for the long
haul. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2030.
CHATEAU MARGAUX 1iere Grand Cru Classe Margaux 2001 £445.00
Bottle
ROBERT PARKER 93 points
"Performing well from bottle, Chateau Margaux’s 2001, which is somewhat reminiscent of
both the 1985 and 1999, is an elegant, seamlessly constructed effort with a deep ruby/purple
color, and a beautiful nose of flowers, creme de cassis, blackberries, and cedar. A blend of 82%
Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 7% Petit Verdot, and 4% Cabernet Franc, this forward, opulent
beauty can be drunk now or cellared for 15-20 years. This is one of the most elegant wines of
the vintage."
CHATEAU MARGAUX 1iere Grand Cru Classe Margaux 2004 £435.00
Bottle
THE WINE ADVOCATE 93 points
The supple-textured 2004 Chateau Margaux is reminiscent of the 2001 or 1999. It exhibits a
superb blue/purple color to the rim as well as sweet aromas of flowers, blueberries, creme de
cassis, licorice, and smoke, superb fruit intensity, medium body, classic elegance, and silky,
sweet tannin in the long finish. This beauty can be drunk now or cellared for two decades or
more.
Margaux
CHATEAU PALMER 3ieme Cru Classe Margaux 1996 Bottle £169.50
ROBERT PARKER 93 POINTS: Deep garnet colour going a little brick. The nose is very
forthcoming with a good intensity of earthy loam and black truffle aromas mingled with dark
cherry, leather, tar and black olive. Medium to high acidity and a medium+ level of very fine
tannins. Great balance. Long finish. (March 2010)
CHATEAU PALMER 3ieme Cru Classe Margaux 2006 Bottle
£149.50
ROBERT PARKER 91-94 'From only 50% of the harvest, administrator Thomas Duroux has
produced a blend of 66% Cabernet Sauvignon and 34% Merlot from yields of 37 hectoliters per
hectare. The 2006 reveals a touch of austerity along with an impressive dense purple color,
and sweet aromas of flowers, licorice, black currants, oak, and underbrush. This structured,
powerful, medium to full-bodied, beautifully made, ageworthy 2006 should be ready to drink
in 5-6 years, and keep for 25-30.'
DECANTER 5***** 'Intense velvety colour, dense and rich, quite fleshy due to the very ripe
Merlots, but Cabernets bring true Margaux breed and a wonderfully silky expression of fruit
with power behind it. 2014-30.'
CHATEAU PALMER 3ieme Cru Classe Margaux 2007 Bottle
£159.95
ROBER PARKER 89 points 'A blend of 49% Merlot, 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 7% Petit
Verdot, the 2007 Palmer possesses a dense ruby/purple color as well as attractive smoky
charcoal, blackberry, and plum aromas, good purity, excellent texture, and a soft, fleshy
mouthfeel. It should drink well for 10-12 years. '
JANCIS ROBINSON 17 points 'Very deep crimson. Rather more drama and concentration on the
nose than Alter Ego has. Reasonably sumptuous. Very sweet, really very obviously low acidity.
Not desperately appetising. Pretty round and soft. Very polished. 12.5%. Very unusual mixture
of old-fashioned structure (low alcohol) with modern texture and much less acidity than in
the old days. Quite distinctive! At Palmer the second wine seemed particularly successful –
having the freshness that was not so evident on the grand vin. Drink 2012-17'
DECANTER MAGAZINE 4**** (18 points) 'Black-red, very rich on the glass and lovely
concentration of velvety, spicy fruit with great depth but not over-extraction, impressive
persistence of flavour with good density of tannins to back it up. Drink 2015-25.'
CHATEAU PALMER 3ieme Cru Classe Margaux 2008 Bottle
£159.50
ROBERT PARKER 95-97 points 'The 2008 Palmer, which tips the scales at 13.5% natural alcohol
(among the highest achieved at this property), is a blend of 51% Merlot, 41% Cabernet
Sauvignon, and 8% Petit Verdot. It is a massively rich wine with an inky/purple color,
sensational density of fruit, velvety tannins, a glorious bouquet of black fruits, licorice,
incense, and subtle barbecue smoke, a superb, full-bodied mouthfeel, and a fabulous texture
and length. With several minutes of swirling, an enticing floral note emerges. The wine’s
glycerin and sweetness suggest it will be approachable 3-4 years after bottling, yet keep for
three decades or more. It appears to be among the finest Palmers made this decade, rivaling
both the 2005 and 2000.'
CHATEAU RAUZAN-SEGLA 2ieme Cru Classe Margaux 2007 £46.95
Bottle/NC
DECANTER MAGAZINE 4**** 17.5 points 'Intense purple-red, very fine fragrance on the nose,
lifted Cabernet fruit and shows lovely florality and elegance, very good depth of fruit on the
palate, combining ripeness and precision and purity, a wine that already shows extremely well
and can only improve. Drink 2013-25.'
THE WINE ADVOCATE 89+ points
'This substantial 2007 (a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot) exhibits a deep
ruby/purple-tinged color along with a big, sweet kiss of licorice, forest floor, tobacco leaf,
black currants, and cherries. It possesses a lovely texture, a round, ample mouthfeel, sweet
tannin, and low acidity. It is drinking well now, and should continue to evolve for a decade or
more.'
CHATEAU RAUZAN-SEGLA 2ieme Cru Classe Margaux 2008 £53.50
Bottle
ROBERT PARKER 91-93 points
'This outstanding effort is atypically forward, sexy, and opulent. Only 45% of the crop made it
into this blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. Yields were 47 hectoliters per
hectare, which is slightly higher than some estates, but the harvest was very late, between
October 2-21. Sweet cassis, black cherry, licorice, tobacco leaf, and spice box are all present in
the complex aromatics. In the mouth, the wine offers generosity, roundness, sweetness, and
velvety, ripe tannins. I was surprised by how forward, precocious, and delicious this wine has
already become. It appears set for a relatively long life of 25+ years.'
MARGAUX 'Selection' 2006 Bottle
£16.95
65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35 % Merlot grapes from two of Margaux top chateaux (ask Liz or
Neil for more info!!).
The wine offers a very velvety nose with ripe fruit bouquet and gentle oak. Beautifully
balanced on the palate, the tannins are delicate leading to intense black fruit characters. It is
an easy wine to approach and will also keep for at least 5 years.
