ISOLE E OLENA Cepparello 2006 Bottle/ST
£39.95
2006 - THE WINE ADVOCATE 93 points
'Isole e Olena’s 2006 Cepparello (100% Sangiovese) reveals superb density and richness in a
surprisingly medium-bodied style for this vintage. Candied red fruit, flowers, menthol and
sweet herbs emerge from the glass with almost liqueur-like sweetness. The wine possesses
outstanding balance and a long, sweet finish, with subtle notes of tar, licorice and herbs that
make an appearance on the close. This is an elegant Cepparello that combines the ripeness of
the vintage in a mid-weight, ethereal style. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2019.'
CHATEAU KA Cabernet-Grenache-Mourvedre, Source de £11.95
Rouge 2005/06 Bottle
A relative newcomer to the scene in the ancient Bekaa Valley but now a serious contender, up
there with the revered Chateau Musar. Medium bodied with balanced, red fruit palate,
succulent and juicy yet silky smooth and moreish. Chateau Ka, literally meaning “soul for an
ancient god”, was founded by Akram Kassatly as recently as 2000, with the first release of
wines in 2006. Previous attempts to start the wine business had been thwarted by war but
this time the winery has flourished. The initial planting of 50 acres, at 1200 metres elevation, is
growing and by 2010 there will be some 300 acres in production.
CHATEAU MUSAR (G. Hochar) Beega Valley 1983 Bottle
£49.95
Appealing, softly spicy palate with some fruit sweetness. Nice density of spicy, sweet fruit on
the palate. Tasty stuff. Very good/excellent 90/100
11/11/2009 'We tasted this as a team today and it was beautifully smooth, perfectly mature
and with all the typical Musar, spiciness and sweetness on the palate. The sample we tasted
was clear and had virtually no sediment. An excellent 26 year old wine' NJP
CHATEAU MUSAR (G. Hochar) Beega Valley 2004 Bottle
£23.95
One of the most remarkable Musar vintages of recent years, powerfully ripe and tannic, but
lifted with balancing acidity. Just ready now but will keep evolving. A classic tagine, with
preserved lemons, dried apricots, prunes and flaked almonds.
TANAIL WINERY Classic Red 'Massaya' 2008/09* Bottle
£9.45
Made in a more modern style in the heart of the Bekka Valley, with a palette of familiar grape
varities. This is a rich yet very elegant wine with morello cherry, cassis and spice to the fore.
Terrifically creamy blackcurrant fruitiness and little notes of anise, grilled meats and floral
hints of violet and roses. On the palate it is concentrated and ripe, with plenty of that slightly
perfumed, parma-violet character to solid, rich, berry fruits. This has a meaty texture and
plenty of substance, with lovely tannins roughening up the edges, and excellent length and
balance. There is very fine quality in evidence here.
TANAIL WINERY Gold Reserve Red 'Massaya' 2005/07** £24.95
Bottle
The Gold Reserve red is Massaya’s “gamme de garde” - its exclusive new French oak barrels
ageing blends in a different dimension. A wine to be put down for special occasions; The black
tie wine of Massaya. "The purple look is deep and intense, with garnet red reflection. The nose
is clear and powerful with under-wood scents. This is a full bodied wine with aromas of
sandalwood and incense." - Winery The Massaya Gold Reserve has the structure, balance and
concentration of tannins that makes it perfect for putting down. It can be aged for 5, 10 or
maybe 15 years and its added value is between 10% and 30% year. An accompaniment for rich
dishes such as red meat in sauce, strong cheese. An ideal companion with roast meats such as
leg of lamb. Best served at 19C.
TANAIL WINERY Silver Selection Red 'Massaya' 2005/08
Bottle
£13.95
Grape Varietals: 40% Cinsaut, 30% Grenache, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Mourvedre. The look
is deep, while the edges are bright with cherry hues. This is a charismatic red with warm
spices, sweet red fruit, subtle oak and a firm tannic structure. This wine is medium-bodied and
well balanced with an elegant and long finish. "The Silver Selection is among the most
delicious of the new generation Lebanese Reds, stuffed with strawberries, spices and
chocolate." One of Lebanon’s most characteristic and affordable reds. Good use of Cinsault
from a winery that is proud of how it uses this unfashionable grape. Deep cherry red, with a
lovely nose of framboise that is a prelude to rich, cooked fruit and pepper in the mouth, yet
supple and soft with decent lenght. This is where modern Lebanese wine should be going.
Jancis Robinson highlighted this wine as one of her top wines to recommend for Christmas
2010 - "Powerful and different. A sort of cross between Ch Musar and St-Emilion."
Road.
FELTON ROAD Pinot Noir 'Block 3' 2010 Bottle
£43.95
Immediately quite masculine on the nose: herbs, earth and brooding dark spices rather than a
flower basket. The palate is at once intensely concentrated but with searing transparency.
The herbs dance through the raspberry and cherry, with a host of complex detail shining
through that encourages one to linger and explore. Regal and structured, but not
intimidating, it sails into a long chocolate finish.
Violets and exotic spices combine on the nose with dark fruits of black cherry and plum. The
rush of the palate is breathtaking: the fruit, a rack of spices, a hint of oak, mocha chocolate
and the sheer textural opulence all fight for your instant attention. The riot continues into the
finish, but ends clean with chocolate tannin and a cleansing minerality. A commanding wine.
ATA RANGI Crimson Pinot Noir 2010 Bottle
£16.95
light cherry, brambly notes and a hint of red licorice conspire to create an enchanting, heady
fragrance. The silky smooth palate is beautifully balanced; seamless, feminine and very
Zealand’s native pohutukawa and rata trees. Ata Rangi founder Clive Paton is a hands-on
conservationist who has raised thousands of rata from seed and cuttings in his mission to
bring their summer-time crimson blooms back to Wellington and the Wairarapa valley.
CLOUDY BAY Pinot Noir 2008 Bottle
DELTA VINEYARDS Pinot Noir - Marlborough 2009 Bottle
£24.95
£13.95
This wine has deep colour with very strong pinot noir aromatic characters. It has very lifted
cherry aromas and violet notes. The palate has a silky start and a grainy, mineral-rich finish. It
is juicy, but focussed. Robert Parker Notes: The 2007 Pinot Noir is much better, quite a high
extraction on the nose with dark cherry and plum with a touch of mulberry, the palate soft
and supple with a plush finish tinged with white pepper. 90 Points
