Tamil Nadu Women’s Development Project (TNWDP)
The Swa-Shakti Project is based on the Tamil Nadu Women’s
Development Project that came into being some ten years
ago. Today, the TNWDC’s Project performance report, based
on a review conducted by IFAD a few years ago, contains
many lessons that will help improve the performance of
the Swa Shakti Project.
Achievements of the TNWDP
There is clear and ample evidence that very poor women
have formed well functioning, homogenous groups;
Landless women report a significant social change: where
they were formerly labourers, they are now small-scale
entrepreneurs;
