Section IV: Other activities under Swa-Shakti project
Community Asset Creation
The level of women’s participation in economic work and
community activity, is often affected by the degree of
drudgery women face. Drudgery is the time and energy
required in routine tasks such as fetching water, collecting
or cutting fodder and fuel wood, etc. The project provides
funds that the SHGs can use to create assets that will help
the members reduce their drudgery 7 :
a. The Project would assist SHGs to create needed assets
like drinking water facilities, sanitation, multipurpose
halls and acquiring teaching and learning material for
schools or pre-school groups;
b. The maximum amount available to a village from the
project would be Rs.100,000 over the duration of the
Project;
c. The SHGs should use this money to access more funds
from other development schemes, grants from local
bodies, donations from the community so that bigger
works may be undertaken;
d. These funds could be spent either on several items in
small amounts or on one major asset;
e. The activity should be supported by the panchayat
through a resolution that would also state the amount
of financial support which the panchayat would make
available;
f. The SHG making the request should be stable and at
least 12 months old;
