Tips for Field Workers
Summary — Non-farm activities
Focus on women already involved in income generating
activities;
Focus on existing enterprises of these women;
Provide business development services to them;
Motivate other potential women and focus on economic
activities, which they know about;
Conduct skill survey;
Develop menu of options;
Training on skill upgradation, costing and negotiations;
Linkages with banks and other schemes;
Exposure visits to micro-enterprises similar to those they
have started;
Set up Business counselling centers to help women in
starting and running income generating activities; and
Making special interventions through expert institutions on
pilot basis.
Output – one third participants to be covered during the second
year of SHG and one third of them to report income increase.
In the beginning, small activities should be encouraged
by the group;
Skill development training will be organised only
when the member is already involved in a trade and
needs to upgrade her skills;
The member must develop marketing links herself.
The field worker should only play a facilitating role,
that is, she should not herself get involved in
marketing; and
The field worker must not promise any financial
benefits.

Swa-Shakti SHGs can be converged with services offered
by other departments in following sectors:
