Taiya Jones, Christina Kulamannage,
Christina Luo, Dylan Penry Williams,
Rhian Shillabeer, Joya Sims, Niamh Taylor-
Hoare, Bridget Turner and Hannah Weeks.
Visit from local author
The English department organised an interactive
session in one of the iPad rooms where
fans of the author Philip Pullman participated
in a special ‘Questions and Answers Masterclass’
via Twitter on their ipads. This exceptional
event was scheduled following Mr Pullman’s
appearance in the BBC series ‘Great
Welsh Writers’. The pupils who took part from
Years 7, 8 and 9 are all keen readers of ‘The
Northern Lights Trilogy’ and the questions
they posed in the live feed were really engaging
and intelligent. Well done to all involved
and we look forward to the next live Twitter
event.
Four KS3 classes enjoyed a visit from local
author Des Mason on Friday 28th June. He
talked to
them about
his book
"The Scrimshaw
of Sable
Island" a
story about
the sea,
whaling,
pirates and
treasure set
in the 19th
century. Pupils
then
asked many
interesting
questions
and Mr Mason
was particularly impressed by how much
the Year 7 classes knew about the whaling industry!
Well done to all who took part, you
were a credit to the school.
“ impressed by how much the Year 7 classes knew about the whaling industry!”
