Congratulations <strong>to</strong> the all 23 <strong>of</strong> the Year<br />

11 students who all completed the<br />

BTEC Extended Certificate qualification<br />

gaining two ‘B’ grade GCSEs.<br />

Not only have<br />

they gained an<br />

academic qualification<br />

but also<br />

raised money for<br />

the Children’s<br />

Society, Children<br />

in Need<br />

and the Brain<br />

Tumour Trust.<br />

The Year 11 WorkSkills class celebrated<br />

their success on a windswept Barry Island<br />

in May undertaking some voluntary<br />

work with the Visible Services department<br />

at the Vale <strong>of</strong> Glamorgan Council. Well<br />

done and keep up the volunteering work everyone!<br />

I am sure that the students will look back<br />

and have good memories <strong>of</strong> their volunteering<br />

work at Porthkerry Park, Barry Island and<br />

Penarth.<br />

This term the Year 10 pupils have been using<br />

the WorkSkills course <strong>to</strong> prepare for their<br />

Work Experience placement in July. The pupils<br />

have spent a week at the following organisations<br />

- Thomas James; Specsavers in Barry,<br />

Harvey Valvo; Penarth Quay Marina, Lewis<br />

Carde; Express Mo<strong>to</strong>rs Ltd Cardiff and Austin<br />

Squire-Wood has been working as a<br />

trainee chef at the Holland House, assisting in<br />

the preparation for the sixth form Valedic<strong>to</strong>ry<br />

Dinner on the 12th July.<br />

Good luck <strong>to</strong> all students and make sure you<br />

get your booklets completed please!<br />

The Year 9 students have been undertaking the<br />

short course Level 2 BTEC in Money and Finance<br />

Skills,<br />

they completed<br />

the<br />

course in<br />

June and<br />

achieved<br />

accreditation.<br />

I know that they are looking forward <strong>to</strong> undertaking<br />

some further volunteering work in the<br />

Autumn term and hopefully the weather will<br />

remain favourable!<br />
