Tennis<br />
In the AEGON tennis Vale <strong>to</strong>urnament held in<br />
May both the girls and boys in the U13 and<br />
U15 competition completed successfully.<br />
They now go through <strong>to</strong> the next round in<br />
September <strong>to</strong> be held in the National Tennis<br />
centre.10 pupils from Years 8 and 9 participated<br />
in a <strong>to</strong>uch tennis <strong>to</strong>urnament at St Richard<br />
Gwyn school in June. Pupils played in<br />
pairs and played for 2 hours non-s<strong>to</strong>p! Congratulations<br />
<strong>to</strong> Thomas Marsh and Harry<br />
Williams who won the competition and were<br />
given tennis equipment for the school.<br />
challenge. Jay Morse won the discus, setting a<br />
county record in the process. Callum Eva came<br />
2 nd in the 1500m, and Matthew Dawson came<br />
5 th in the 1000m walk. Taiya Jones came 2 nd in<br />
the high jump and 1500m and Silva Brindle<br />
came 2 nd in the long jump. Well done <strong>to</strong> everyone<br />
who <strong>to</strong>ok part and there will be many more<br />
competitions next year.<br />
Athletics<br />
<strong>Stanwell</strong> pupils have taken part in a number<br />
<strong>of</strong> athletics events held <strong>this</strong> year and have produced<br />
some good results. In the knock out<br />
cup, all 4 teams got through <strong>to</strong> the final where<br />
the U16 Girls finished in 2 nd place. There<br />
were some fantastic performances from Elizabeth<br />
Birch Hurst, Emily Wooster, Emily<br />
Ross, Phoenix Kaged, Rhys Jones and Jay<br />
Morse.<br />
Many <strong>of</strong> the pupils were selected <strong>to</strong> the represent<br />
the county in July at the Welsh schools<br />
athletics competition.<br />
The Year 7 boys’ and girls’ teams recently<br />
participated in the Cardiff and Vale <strong>of</strong> Glamorgan<br />
Year 7 Championships at Jenner Park.<br />
For many <strong>this</strong> was their first experience <strong>of</strong> an<br />
athletic competition and everyone rose <strong>to</strong> the<br />
5 x 60 Officer<br />
The 5x60 programme is a government initiative<br />
that aims <strong>to</strong> increase the number <strong>of</strong> secondary<br />
age pupils taking part in sport or physical activity<br />
for 60 minutes, at least five times a week. The<br />
PE department are pleased <strong>to</strong> introduce our new<br />
5 x 60 <strong>of</strong>ficer<br />
