Description: The Institute was founded in 1946 and co-operates with the
Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Latvia and the Faculty
of Chemical Technology at the Riga Technical University in
training students and providing research opportunities for
Master's and Doctoral studies. The Institute publishes the
Chemistry Journal of Latvia ("Latvijas Kimijas Zurnals").
The main research areas at the Plasma Process
Laboratory, Institute of Inorganic Chemistry are:
• The plasma chemistry and technology of inorganic
compounds, new ceramics, ceramic materials and coatings.
• The Investigation of metal surfaces; electro-deposition of
super-conductive, amorphous thin layers; anti-corrosion
protection of metals.
• Membrane processes; the electrochemistry of liquid
membranes; technology for the recovery of precious and
non-ferrous metals from metal-containing industrial liquids
and recycled raw materials.
• The structure and properties of co-ordination compounds and
their use in the analysis of industrial and natural object.
• Inorganic phosphorous and nitrogen compounds, synthesis,
