Structural characteristics of the films and
multilayers are studied using standard methods,
such as X-ray diffraction and transition electron
microscopy. The morphology of the samples is
studied by scanning electron microscopy and
atomic force microscopy. It also uses
nanostructured materials.

This Institute also runs some projects for different organisations such as the EU,
NATO, COST (P. Lobotka: « Nanostructured materials »), APVT, VEGA.

Description: The principal objective of this Institute is to carry out the
fundamental research in the field of polymers and
macromolecular systems. The scientific program of the Institute
is focused on the synthesis of polymeric materials and on the
studies of the relationship between the structure and properties
of macromolecular compounds. A substantial part of the
research is directed to the preparation and study of the properties
of modified polymers, polymeric blends and composites.
The Institute consists of Departments where the scientific
and administrative activities are concentrated:
• Department of Polymerisation Reactions: study of the
synthesis of polymers and copolymers.
• Department of Polymer Reactions: polar properties
