groups. With this programme, TÜBA tries to develop a new generation of competent<br />

researchers from all disciplines. Since 2001, 75 young scientists have been<br />

International Co-operation<br />

The Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK)<br />

Turkey has many activities on the subjects of bilateral, multilateral and regional<br />

co-operation in the scientific and technological fields. Bilateral co-operations are<br />

carried out within the framework of agreements and protocols signed between the<br />

governments, or between TÜBİTAK on behalf of the Turkish Government and its<br />

equivalent foreign organisations. There are bilateral agreements signed between the<br />

Government of Turkey and the governments of the USA, the Russian Federation and<br />

Hungary. Furthermore, there are many agreements signed between TÜBİTAK and<br />

foreign organisations such as CNR of Italy, CNRS of France, CSIR of India, NSF of USA<br />

and OFMB of Hungary. Within the framework of regional co-operation activities,<br />

TÜBİTAK also participates in the activities of the Economic Co-operation Organisation<br />

(ECO), Euro-Mediterranean Partnership (EURO-MED) and the Black Sea Economic Cooperation<br />

(BSEC) Organisation.<br />

Turkey also actively participates in activities in the field of science and technology<br />

with numerous international organisations such as UN, NATO, OECD, the<br />

Organisation for Islamic Conference (OIC), the European Science Foundation (ESF)<br />

and the International Council of Scientific Unions (ICSU). Turkey is a member of the Cooperation<br />

in Scientific and Technological Research in Europe (COST) and the<br />

European Research Co-ordination Agency (EUREKA) programs and has duties in<br />

some of the programs of the EU.<br />

The Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA)<br />

TÜBA has established bilateral agreements with the Albanian Academies of<br />

Sciences; the Austrian Academy of Sciences; Bulgarian Academy of Sciences; the<br />

Bulgarian National Academy of Medicine; the French Academy of Sciences; the<br />

Hungarian Academy of Sciences, the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities; the<br />

Korean Academy of Science and Technology; and the Romanian Academy.<br />

TÜBA is a member of All European Academies (ALLEA), InterAcademy Panel (IAP) and<br />

its Executive Committee, Network of the Academies of Mediterranean Countries, Third<br />

World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), International Human Rights Network of<br />

Academies and Scholarly Societies, Association of Academies of Sciences in Asia<br />

(AASA), Co-operation between Academies of Black Sea Economic Co-operation<br />

(BSEC) Countries and International Social Science Council (ISSC).<br />
