completion of the interview. The most efficient method is to use the<br />
computer scoring program*. The scores from the interview schedule or<br />
answer sheet are entered directly into a personal computer. The program<br />
is written with operator prompts, and the user responds to questions<br />
regarding the task to be performed and the management of the data,<br />
which may be sent to a printer and saved in a disk file. The entire procedure<br />
takes approximately 10 minutes.<br />
The printout provides the following information for each ICD-10 disorder:<br />
criteria present or absent; number of criteria met; diagnosis - definite,<br />
probable (one criterion less than the required number), negative,<br />
late onset (optional). past (optional); dimensional score; and number of<br />
criteria based on informants. The criteria met by the subject are also<br />
printed verbatim.<br />
The <strong>IPDE</strong> program will execute properly under either the BASICA<br />
program supplied with IBM PCs or GWBASIC supplied with MS-DOS,<br />
PC compatible systems. and requires a 2.0 or greater version of DOS. It<br />
is supplied on a single 360K diskette with accompanying software. The<br />
diskette also has a short batch file for installation on a hard disk drive.<br />
Handscoring<br />
The IF'DE may also be handscored by clerical personnel. All of the<br />
scores are transcribed onto summary scoresheets that contain stepbystep<br />
algorithmic directions.<br />

Q. Do I ask every subject all of the questions on the IF'DE?<br />
A. Ask every question that is flush with the left-hand margin unless d i<br />
otherwise. Indented questions preceded by 'If Yes' or 'If No' are asked<br />
if the subject provides the appropriate response. When an indented question<br />
is asked, be sure to include any subsequent questions that are<br />
aligned with it.<br />
Q. Should the questions be asked verbatim?<br />
A. Yes. Do not change the wording or embellish the question with your own<br />
comments, a common emr of beginners.<br />
