Leiden is situated at the confluence of the Old and New Rhine rivers in<br />
the western Netherlands. It was first mentioned in ALI 922 as a holding of<br />
the Utrecht diocese. It developed around a twelfth-century castle and<br />
received its name (Lugdunum Batavomm) in the sixteenth cennuy from<br />
Janus Dousa. a statesman and defender against the Spaniards. The<br />
University of Leiden was founded in 1575 and the city became a centre<br />
of Dutch Reformed theology, science and medicine. It is the birthplace<br />
of many famous Dutch painters including Rembrandt. Jan van Goyen,<br />
and Jan Steen.<br />
The Department of Clinical and <strong>Health</strong> Psychology at the University<br />
of Leiden and the St. Joris Psychiatric Hospital in Delft participated in<br />
the study. Delft is a small city between Rotterdam and the Hague,<br />
famous for its handmade faience delftware. All subjects of the study<br />
were from St. Joris.<br />

London is the largest pon, and commercial and culhlral centre of Great<br />
Britain and its Commonwealth. Pounded by the Romans as Londinium,<br />
it experienced tremendous gmwth in trade and population at the end of<br />
the sixteenth century. Today it is one of the major centres of international<br />
trade and finance, and a tourist attraction for visitors from all over<br />
the world. Its museums, theatres and other cultural institutions make it<br />
one of the cultural capitals of the world.<br />
The Bethlem Royal and the Maudsley Hospital, known informally as<br />
the Joint Hospital, have treated the mentally ill for more than 600 years.<br />
Today the Joint Hospital is administered as a postgraduate teaching hospital.<br />
and with the Institute of Psychiatry make up a tripartite organization<br />
commonly referred to as the Maudsley. The out-patient department<br />
serves some 3000 new attenders each year, representing all the psychiatric<br />
disorders. The hospital is responsible for a local catchment area in<br />
south-east London, south Southwark. In collaboration with the Institute<br />
of Psychiatry, the hospital has a wide range of specialty units, including<br />
those devoted to forensic psychiatry, alcoholism and the addictions, eating<br />
disorders, epilepsy, child and adolescent psychiatry, and neumpsychiatry.<br />
It is also a refenal centre for specialist services for patients from<br />
all over the country. The Institute of Psychiatry is affiliated with the<br />
University of London and offers advanced training for psychiaaists, psychologists,<br />
neumlogists, and other scientific and paramedical workers. It
