serving about 2000 psychiatric and 2000 neurological patients annually.<br />
The in-patient department consists of an intensive care unit (locked<br />
ward), several open wards, a crisis intervention ward, and a neurological<br />
ward. Cmnt research is focused on biological psychiatry, including<br />
neuroendocrinology and molecular genetics. There is also a great interest<br />
in the diagnosis and assessment of psychiatric disorders. The Institute has<br />
translated and tested a number of WHO diagnostic inshuments.<br />
The Department of Psychiatry of the University of Munich has an outstanding<br />
histoty dating hack to Emil Kraepelin. It is now a part of the<br />
Munich Faculty of Clinical Medicine and comprises a 208 bed hospital,<br />
out-patient clinic, day and night clinics, and several affiliated department.<br />
Its staff comprises more than 300 professionals, including 97 physicians,<br />
psychologists, psychotherapists, and biochemists. The in-patient service<br />
cares for the inhabitants of Munich and its surrounding areas, and also<br />

chosomatic~, neurophysiology and EEG, and forensic psychiatry. Patients<br />
are predominantly from working class backgrounds, but all socioeconomic<br />

Nairobi is the capital of Kenya and one of the main Wading centres in<br />

as a colonial railway settlement. It got its name from a waterhole known<br />
to the Masai people as Enkare Nairobi (cold water).<br />
The city attracted many migrants from various parts of rural Kenya<br />
and became one of the largest cities in tropical Africa. It is the principal<br />
industrial centre in the country and the railway is the largest single industrial<br />
employer.<br />
The study in Nairobi was conducted at three sites: Kenyatta National<br />
Hospital. Mathan Mental Hospital and the University of Nairobi<br />
Students' <strong>Health</strong> Centre. The Kenyatta National Hospital is the largest<br />
