The presence of a common mental disorder important in the differential<br />
diagnosis of PDs<br />
Evidence of the following longstanding and persistent pattern of symptomatology<br />
and behavior which in the context of the given culture is considered<br />
an abnormality of personality due to the presence oE<br />
(a) Markedly disharmonious attitudes and behavior usually involving several<br />
areas of functioning. e.g.. affectivity, arousal, impulse control, ways<br />
of perceiving and thinking. and styles of relating to others.<br />
(b) The abnormal behavior is enduring and not limited to episodes of mental<br />
illness.<br />
(C) The abnormal behavior pattern is pervasive and clearly maladaptive to a<br />
broad range of personal and social situations.<br />
(d) The above manifestations generally appear during childhood or adolescence<br />
and continue into adulthood.<br />
(e) The disorder is of sufficient severity to lead to considerable personal distress<br />
and/or the disorder is usually, but not invariably, associated with<br />
significant impairment in occupational and social performance.
