USA has been heralded as <strong>the</strong> world’s<br />

first ‘intelligent building’. This title was<br />

based upon <strong>the</strong> building’s electronic<br />

control system that linked up, through a<br />

data-highway, different systems <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

building such as air conditioning, lifts<br />

and safety systems.<br />

were designed in 1994, by Bennetts<br />

Associates, ‘intelligent’ was used in<br />

relation to energy efficient buildings with<br />

‘active’ control systems.<br />

natural ventilation, relying on night-time<br />
