The Solheim Cup Facts continued
PING Junior Solheim Cup:
PING and the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) formed the PING Junior Solheim Cup in
2001 as the first girls-only team event of its kind at the junior level, featuring the 12 finest female
junior golfers (ages 13-18) from the United States against the top 12 junior golfers (ages 13-18)
from Europe. The first event was held in Minneapolis, Minn., the week of the 2002 Solheim
Cup, where the US Team won 17 - 7. The European team won the following year in Malmo,
Sweden, 12½ - 11½ and the US team won 16-8 in 2005 at The Bridgewater Club in Westfield,
Ind. In 2007, Europe regained the title in Båstad, Sweden, winning 14 - 10. In 2009, the US
Team regained control of the Junior Solheim Cup, winning 15½ - 8½ at Aurora Country Club in
Aurora, Ill. In 2011, the US team retained the PING Junior Solheim Cup in dramatic fashion
when they came from behind to earn a 12 - 12 draw against Europe in an intense match at
Knightsbrook Hotel Spa & Golf Resort, Co. Meath, Ireland, which was not settled until the last
putt dropped. The 2013 Junior Solheim Cup will be held at a The Inverness Hotel & Golf Club in
Denver, Colorado, during the week of August 13 - 18, 2013. For more information about the
