then collected the Players’ Player of the Year Award, as<br />

voted for by her fellow competitors, having ended the<br />

year ranked third on the <strong>LET</strong>’s official Henderson Money<br />

List, behind Ai Miyazato and Melissa Reid, with season’s<br />

earnings of €278,529 from 20 tournaments played. This<br />

award was launched in 1995 and Hedwall became the<br />

first player in <strong>LET</strong> history to win both this award and be<br />

named the Rolex Rookie of the Year in the same season.<br />

She also played a starring role on Europe’s winning<br />

Solheim Cup team winning 2½ points at Killeen Castle in<br />

Ireland with a 2-1-1 record. Caroline formed a strong<br />

partnership with Sophie Gustafson, defeating Vicky Hurst<br />

and Brittany Lincicome by 5 and 4 in the Friday fourballs<br />

and beating Angela Stanford and Stacy Lewis by 6 and 5<br />

in the Saturday foursomes. Earned a vital halve against<br />

Ryann O’Toole in the penultimate singles match on<br />

Sunday to help bring the overall score to 15-13.<br />

AMATEUR<br />

Tied for 27th at the 2010 Ricoh Women’s British Open at<br />

Royal Birkdale and won the Smyth Salver as the leading<br />

amateur. Tied for eighth place at the 2010 Finnair Masters<br />

at Helsinki GC. Competed at the 2009 and 2008 Ricoh<br />

Women’s British Opens. Tied for 13th at the 2008<br />

Scandinavian TPC hosted by Annika in Sweden. Was<br />

the 2010 NCGA champion and Player of the Year. Led<br />

Sweden to victory at the <strong>European</strong> Team Championships<br />

in 2008 and 2010. Won the 2007 and 2009 <strong>European</strong><br />

Amateur Championship. Was named to the Swedish<br />

squad for the 2008 World Amateur Team Championship<br />

where she teamed with former Cowgirl Pernilla Lindberg<br />

and Anna Nordqvist to win the team title. World Amateur<br />

Champion in 2008. Won the <strong>LET</strong>’s Final Qualifying School<br />

for the 2011 season at La Manga Club by nine strokes.<br />

PERSONAL<br />

Caroline started to play golf aged eight. She is the<br />

daughter of Yvonne and Claes Hedwall. She has a twin<br />

sister, Jacqueline, who was a member of the golf team<br />

at LSU. She was also recruited by Duke, Arizona, LSU,<br />

New Mexico and Purdue but chose to attend Oklahoma<br />

State University. She lives in Loddekopinge, Sweden.<br />

Her hobbies include skiing and snowboarding.<br />

PROFESSIONAL<br />

n In 2012, Maria played a limited schedule due to<br />

injury (bulging disc). She competed in three <strong>LET</strong> events<br />

with a season best tie for 17th at the Lacoste <strong>Ladies</strong><br />

Open de France.<br />

n In 2011, played in five <strong>LET</strong> tournaments with a season<br />

best tie for 15th at the ANZ RACV <strong>Ladies</strong> Masters.<br />

n In 2010, her rookie season on the <strong>LET</strong>, played in seven<br />

events and earned her maiden victory at the inaugural<br />

Allianz <strong>Ladies</strong> Slovak Open at Gray Bear Golf Club with<br />

AMATEUR<br />

Hernandez tied for 31st at the 2003 Open de Espana<br />

Femenino as an amateur. She tied for 13th at the same<br />

tournament in 2005 and tied for 55th in 2009. The 2009<br />

NCAA Player of the Year, from Purdue University, turned in<br />

a strong collegiate career, which was capped off with the<br />

NCAA Division I Individual Championship. She won eight<br />

times while at Purdue University, and in 2008, she won<br />

the Big Ten Conference Championship and was named<br />

the Purdue Female Athlete of the Year. She's a two-time<br />

Duramed National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA)<br />

All-American First Team selection, and a two-time Big<br />

Ten Conference Player of the Year, both in 2007 and 2008.<br />

An eight year member of the Spanish National Team,<br />

Hernandez is a five-time <strong>European</strong> Team Championship<br />

gold medalist, and earned a gold medal at the 2005<br />

Mediterranean Games as an individual and as a team.<br />
