Planning Support for Students with Autism Spectrum Disorders Chapter Eight
Early Childhood Educator
The early childhood educator (ECE) facilitates the development
and implementation of a curriculum which supports the integration
of children in early childhood settings. The ECE’s role is to:
• ensure that a child with ASD has the proper intervention
program that allows him/her to participate in the regular setting
and contribute to the identification of strengths and needs of
the child to facilitate the educational planning process
• ensure that the child is being integrated appropriately
• act as a liaison between the preschool setting and the school
prior to entry into kindergarten
• be aware of the professionals involved with the child
The Paediatric Team Stan Cassidy Centre for Rehabilitation
Who we are
We are a group of rehabilitation professionals who have specialized
in child development. Our staff includes occupational therapists,
physiotherapists, speech language pathologists, physiatrists (doctor
of physical medicine and rehabilitation) a child psychologist, dietitian,
neuro-psychologist and educational consultant. Our goal is to help
children to maximize their potential. We work together as a team to
find effective and practical solutions to problems.
Who we help
Our region of service includes the entire province of New Brunswick.
We serve French and English-speaking children, from birth to
adolescence who have a developmental or neurological disorder. Areas
of expertise include autism, feeding/swallowing disorders and neuromuscular
disorders.
We do not carry a caseload of our own. We provide assistance to
caregivers, rehabilitation providers and teachers who are working with
the children on a regular basis. Our team can help by providing
consultation or training. We support children’s rehabilitation programs
by evaluating specialized equipment, proving short periods of intensive
therapy or by visiting children in their own school or home to make
recommendations about their surroundings.
