Next, press the ‘Clear’ button to clear the account <strong>of</strong> votes recorded<br />

during the mock voting. On pressing the ‘Clear’ button, all counts in<br />

the Display Panel will show ZERO as explained in para 1.3 above.<br />

You have been instructed in Chapter VIII to conduct mock poll to<br />

ensure and demonstrate to the polling agents that the EVM is in perfect<br />

working condition and then clear the mock poll result be<strong>for</strong>e sealing the<br />

Control Unit and thereafter prepare the Certificate <strong>of</strong> mock poll.<br />

(Method <strong>of</strong> conducting mock poll has been explained in Chapter XII.) If<br />

within the first hour <strong>of</strong> poll it is observed by you or the Observer that the<br />

mock poll result has not been cleared from the Control Unit be<strong>for</strong>e<br />

sealing it and after sealing the Unit actual poll has been commenced,<br />

you must suspend poll, close the Control Unit and resume the poll with<br />

a fresh machine. Try also to retrace and recall the voters, who had<br />

voted be<strong>for</strong>e the suspension <strong>of</strong> the poll and allow them to vote afresh.<br />

Use some method <strong>of</strong> marking their left hand finger to prevent<br />

double/multiple voting by the same voter.
