Operating Instructions<br />

Normal Starting Procedure<br />

Starting<br />

Ensure the parking brake is set ON<br />

and the transmission shift lever is in<br />

neutral. For automatic transmissions<br />

that have park position, place the shift<br />

lever in park.<br />

With the accelerator pedal in the idle<br />

position, turn the ignition key to the<br />

START position.<br />

NOTE: Release the key after 10<br />

seconds if the engine does not<br />

start. Then wait 10 seconds and<br />

try again.<br />

NOTE: If the engine is running,<br />

do not increase engine speed<br />

(rpm) or operate the vehicle until<br />

the low oil pressure warning<br />

lamp turns off.<br />

With the key in the ON position, the<br />

engine warning lamps will come on<br />

momentarily and then go out. The<br />

engine warning lamps include:<br />

1. Check engine lamp; yellow in<br />

color.<br />

2. STOP engine lamp; red in color.<br />

3. Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF)<br />

status indicator; yellow in color.<br />

4. High Exhaust System Temperature<br />

(HEST); amber in color.<br />

CAUTION: Engaging the<br />

starter motor for more than<br />

30 seconds in any fifteen<br />

minute period may cause it to<br />

overheat and can damage the<br />

starter motor.
