number or holding time, were calculated to compare sporozoite infectivities at each cycle and<br />

holding time. To express this as infectivity losses between subsequent cycles, the calculated ratios<br />

were subtracted from unit (1-ratio) e.g. a ratio <strong>of</strong> 0.99 per cycle is actually 1 % loss <strong>of</strong> infectivity<br />

per cycle.<br />

4.3. Results<br />

Differences in the infectivity <strong>of</strong> stabilates prepared and stored in PBS (n=215), RPMI (n=502) and<br />

FCS (n=212) were not statistically significant (P>0.05) when compared to MEM (n=500).<br />

Estimates <strong>of</strong> ED ratios were 0.59, 1.03 and 0.67 <strong>for</strong> PBS, RPMI and FCS, respectively (Table 4).<br />

The regression curves <strong>of</strong> predicted values, comparing infectivities, were very close, with MEM and<br />

RPMI showing a superimposition <strong>of</strong> their curves (Fig. 8 and Appendix III). While the dose (ln t.e.)<br />
