• CYP polymorphisms are well-characterized and categorized well for<br />
genetic populations<br />
• Example: Warfarin (anticoagulant) has a very narrow therapeutic index<br />
• Warfarin is hydroxylated primarily by CYP2C9 to deactivate it<br />
• Polymorphism in CYP2C9 (2C9*2, 2C9*3) has reduced hydroxylation<br />
activity and can reduce metabolism of drug, potentially causing death
