While the benefits <strong>of</strong> an entertainment industry are clear –<br />

employment, venues for recreation for both men and women,<br />

enhanced tourism, government revenues – the benefits <strong>of</strong> a<br />

sex industry are questionable. If the government does not<br />

make clear decisions to separate the entertainment industry<br />

from the sex industry, then a coordinated protection system<br />

will be needed to minimize and control the impact <strong>of</strong> the sex<br />

industry.<br />

What is child-sensitive social protection<br />

Social protection has been used in some countries to ensure<br />

that the benefits <strong>of</strong> industrialization and economic growth<br />

reach the poorest. In practice, social protection is understood<br />

as a set <strong>of</strong> public actions that address poverty, vulnerability<br />

and exclusion. Because children are dependent on adults to<br />

support and protect them means that loss <strong>of</strong> family care is a<br />

significant risk. Child-sensitive social protection is an approach<br />

that aims at maximizing opportunities and developmental<br />

outcomes for children. Instruments <strong>of</strong> a child-sensitive<br />

social protection system include: social transfers, social insurance<br />
